Are they fixing the AI to be smarter in naval combat only or are they fixing it on land combat also?

Supposedly, both. I asked the same question a couple of months ago, myself. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

They apparently can do naval invasions better. That's all we know for sure.

Although the developers said that they really improved the AI, the only way to figure it out is playing the game.

I don't want to sound pessimist, but I'm sure that when the game gets released on June 19th - 22nd, most topics will be ''The AI hasn't improved anything!'' and ''This game still sucks!''. :(

There was mention that the AI, in general, was getting improved. That's why I said supposedly. What "improved" means is relative. It probably means no more pikes hanging around during the age of tanks.

I'm pretty sure the AI can suprise you because embarked units now stack with military ships ANd you can't kill a embarked unit in one shot because they all have the embarked defence bonus So no more defending you're sea with 1 caravel.

Olso these changes will improve the AI in general because it can handle the new systems better

I guarantee such comments will appear no matter what. Especially the latter, which will be spoken by people who have hated Civ sequels since Civ2.

I would be allready happy if diplomacy would improve

Because non game has donne a turn based combat AI perfectly

Yes diplo AI is all that matters for me really. When it makes sense again, I'll be happy as never before. Never would have thought back in Civ4, that it can actually degrade from there...

I agree with this too. Man, do I get so much heat on here for saying it.

No one wants to believe that the devs said themselves that the biggest complaints were about diplomacy and the AI. One guy tried to actually tell me I am making it up. The point is people believe what they want no matter what. As for me, I will see for myself.

The AI will never be perfect or even close, but I do feel it will improve.

The Czech article talked about this. The Czech reviewer said naval AI was not fixed and possibly even worse than in vanilla.

This is one of my worst fears, I hope it isn't true, but one reviewer has already said it may be terrible. Heres hoping its not like he reviewed

Well at least the AI can do a naval invasion in 10 turns rather than 50, that has to count for something.

I notice that there was no evidence from the reviewer with screenshots showing proof of that. If your going to give such a bad review of naval warfare tell us at least why you think that.

Yea the Czech forum member of ours said he had a vendetta, so thats at least what I am hoping it boils down to.

Because functionality is what caused so many problems with the community with the release of vanilla. Of course things can be fixed, but all the great features being added still need a good base, and heres hoping!:goodjob:

I read the article too, it described Boudica as a raffish hooker. I did not see where it said the naval AI sucked, it was a more broad description of the AI being horrible. Maybe the demo is missing some of the real gusto of the finished game. I, like all the rest of you can only hope for the best.

It even has you beat there brother! hehe

As much as the massively glowing articles should be taken with a grain of salt, the massively negative one should also be ignored, especially since it's the only one.

Smart Ass! Why do you say things to get a rise out of people? They think you play on prince.

Dennis Shirk stated in the PAX east interview with 2K Greg that several passes have been done on the AI, specificially land AI. What does a pass entail? Does it have to do with coding at all? Can anyone explain what this really means?

I figured we could discuss the AI a bit and try to figure out what Firaxis is really up too, as far as that goes. They talk very positive bout the AI calling it quick, devastating, etc. They also state that you cannot watch enemy ships just go by and wave at them any longer, because they will attack, attack attack! Do you think this is really so?

Likely:

They did some work on the AI, decided it wasn't quite there, did some more work on it, etc.

When they test the AI as they fix it, do they simulate strategic and tactical situations, and see how the AI reacts? And how it deals with those situations? It must be a lot of fun, yet very tedious at the same time, if that is the case.
