i have seen some other civs (in single p) get a golden age triggered by them traveling around the world with something but now that i send a boat around the world (it went off sailing to the left/west and pretty much came back that way, to the same city where it came from).

how do i get an around the world message about my civ?

I'm sure in the event log I've seen "[blah] is the first civilization to circumnavigate the world" and would like to know
1. how to do it and
2. what it does

The first civ to have explored territory (on its own) that goes around the world gets +1 movement to their ships for, I think, the rest of the game. Similar to Magellans Voyage.

The only time I have noticed it was playing on the map that is supposed to resemble the earth (not the actual earth map, but one that has everyone on on continent with a couple other continents far away). The first civ to reach the other continent and settle there (i think) got the around the world message. I'm pretty sure this is why they got it but i could be wrong

Recently, I actually managed to do this (with a boat). You apparently get +1 movement (I assume for boats) for being the first to do so.

First civilization to circumnavigate the globe gets one additional movement point for all navel vessels. Can be very useful, and a good way to put a caravel to use, loaded with an explorer to drop off on another continent or Island. Just watch out for barbs.
