Formation of Tarvalus: Part 2
It was day three and Arundin and his fellow tribesmen had tracked a massive bear to the far north, this wasnt what Arundin had been searching for but he seized this opportunity. He knew the dangers that this creature possessed and came up with a great plan with the other hunters. Malurem would get the bears attention by shooting an arrow at it, then it would begin to charge at him but mostly the trap laid in between the two.
Malurem took out an arrow and attached it to the string, pulled back, then let the arrow fly. The speed on the projectile dug the sharpened arrowhead into the cold pink skin of the white bear as it tore through tissue and tendon as the bear turned to charge the middle aged man. Its pale blue eyes glaring towards Malurem began to barrel toward him, just as it was about ten feet away it hurled its self at him. He jumped back a step and the bear landed on the trap and tight wires wrapped around the bears back left leg then it roared in pain and anger. Then the rest of the group surrounded the massive beast, stabbing and slicing it as it threw a few swipes at the men and then fell to the ground out of exhaustion and blood loss.
For Tarval! Arundin yelled as he held up the severed bears head and blood leaked onto his exposed arm. Great job on this track men, tonight we feast on this massive prey as our lord has gifted us with an amazing opportunity and we took it! Cheers followed the speech and the men immediately began to set up a camp site.
A few hours later the men had completely skinned the bear and cut up a few good chunks of the animal and had eaten it. Now most of them were laying in their blankets of furs and skins close to the fire for warmth and rest. Arundin pulled out a small pipe made of the bark of some of the few trees that grew around his tribes lands and placed a few herbs into it and began to smoke. He filled his lungs with a deep breathe from the pipe and exhaled the smoke, then turned to notice his good friend Malurem walking towards him.
That was a great job back there Arundin, but I know you are not satisfied with what the lord has given us
He paused to stare off into the deep, dark distance, then continued. Why is this sir?
The night before our departure from Tarval I had a vision from the lord himself, he showed me this great wolf that terrorized coastal villages such as our great village of Tarval. It worked alone, unlike all wolves we know of, but this one was much bigger and stronger then any we have faced or seen. Arundin paused to suck on his pipe again then continued, My friend the lord showed me what this beast would do, he would sneak into villages at night killing one or two tribesmen and steal their young children to eat later that night. Now as much as I believed the lord wanted us to slay this creature at the end of my vision he told me he wants us to tame this beast and live peacefully along side it, or else our people will become nothing more then a memory
Arundin turned to look at Malurem with a look of grief on his face then took another puff.
Malurem placed a rough hand on his friends shoulder and nodded in agreement. If that is what you must do then I will trust you and help you find this wolf then tame it with you sir.
The darkness was a little lighter the next morning as the group awoke and Arundin knew his hunt was coming to an end sooner then he would have liked. He picked himself up and threw on his clothes then picked up his spear and with a nod his men followed him onward even further north. As they continued Arundin thought more and more on the vision which had come to him and the outcome that would happen, that needed to happen to save his people. The thought turned his stomach but he just kept walking, this day to the end he would not be side tracked by other prey he would just focus on the wolf his lord wished him to find.
