You guys remember my multiple rulers proposal, right? http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=101907

Well, what if it could be possible (through the diplomacy screen) to assassinate foreign rulers and in doing so you cause their ruler to change to another one? For example, let's say the ruler of the German Civ is Hitler who has been invading Civs left and right and is coming after you next, well you can attempt to assassinate him and if successful perhaps the ruler will revert to a more benevolent Bismarck, or who knows? The chances of succeeding should be slim but should still be an option worth pursuing... Maybe you could attempt to assassinate your own Ruler because you don't like his traits and would like someone different.

Another thing is that if your civ goes through a civil war then there should be a very real possibility that your ruler is overthrown and a new one with different traits put in his/her place. If you are a representative form of government then it should be possible to do this more peacefully through the act of impeachment. Say you are Lincoln of the Americans and you initiate some unpopular war and war weariness gets heavy. If war weariness gets bad enough there should be a real danger of impeachment and if this happens Lincoln is removed from office and replaced by Thomas Jefferson, or George Washington or whatever...

Thoughts? :)

Well what if you're a player and someone assassinates you. If you pick up an alternate leaderhead, are you suddenly forced to play a different way?

The contraversial point I'm trying to make is it doesn't matter if you're Lincoln, Xerxes, or Gandhi -- everyone will/should play like Napoleon if they want to win.

I guess that's what I'm getting at over here -- http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=101196&page=2

I think there should be a spy action to assassinate teh enemy leader. This will automatically force that civ to go into a revolution is successful. Democracies and other gov types that have established procedures for electing an alternate (as opposed to choosing someone in the right club) are immune.

In the frame of the proposed multiple leader system (2-3 different leaders per civ) this does not make sense. First you are scientific/militaristic (bismarck), you build up cheap libraries and promote your units, then you assassinate your own ruler and become lets say industrious and commercial (maybe Friedrich) with still the cheap buildings and promoted units from before AND the benefits from the new traits. Too much abuse there. So for me its a :thumbdown

Besides, you, the player, are the leader of your civ, would you kill yourself if you are unhappy with your traits (well that can be a reason for fragile personalities)

Although it would be cool to see more leaders per civilization, I don't think it would work out. It might become pointless, if there are even enough leaders added per civilization in the first place, because Civilization 4 probably won't be dramatically different than Civilization 3, or at least different enough to notice any differences between two leaders. A good example would be the United States. Although the leaders differ in their political party, I bet you wouldn't be able to tell if they're liberal or conservative unless the developers make an attempt to make this simulate the world. The replacement leaders should be different if the civilization's citizens go as far as to overthrow or impeach the former one.

The impeachment, assassination, or overthrowing of a leader probably wouldn't be a good idea, but maybe you could have the ability to choose a leader (out of a group) to lead the civilization in your game. For example you could choose either Bismarck or Hitler to lead Germany in your game. That way, you can notice the differences between the leaders more easily.
