Is Atlantis worthy of a place in Sid miers civilization series?

What would we call them.....Atlantians maybe.

What characteristic would they have as a civ? Scientific and sea traverse maybe?

There is no actual proof that Atlantis actually existed. Maybe it would be worthy in a mythological mod.

sealman's right. Historically, all of the civs (whether the could be called civs or not) can be proven to have existed. If ever there is proof, then I would give the Atlantians as much consideration as any other civ left out.

Would be nice in a mythological mod. You could argue about traits and UUs all day.

If you want to play Atlantians go and play Age of Mythology.
There are already enough suspicious "civilizations" in the game...

Atlantis? You might as well throw in the Martians...as already stated, the game is based on history, not mythology.

On the other hand, there's a great editor included in the software. Knock yourself out.

A GOTM "Mediterranean" game a few months ago included an Atlantian civilization. You could download the mod and put them in your game.

The lost city of atlantis appeared in one of my games. it was a glitch though , i razed a city on the peninsula and the ruins shifted into the ocean
