Great Britain speculation

Why does the British city list not include cities from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? Cities such as Glasgow or Belfast were quite important during the British Empire
Good spot, poor show all round, thou to be fair most "consider" britian to mean England anyways.

Another bad call by the dev's should have left it as England . Thou perhaps in a most realistic way , once they sell of the 4th Modern age britain could switch into England and or Scotland .
In the real world this may/hopefully happen anyways so be quite a prophetic take

I think 4th age civilization will be named United Kingdom.

Seems Firaxis's researchers only have a surface-level knowledge of history like most people do when it comes to the British Isles and just think that Britain = England, which is insulting to everybody on the islands. Glasgow was known as the second city of the empire for a reason.

They're probably also planning a Scotland civilisation for the game. Let's just hope they put Scotland in the Exploration Age, lest we have a truly ludicrous situation where Great Britain and Scotland exist simultaneously. It's just slap-dash all around.
Sadly, the same happens with other civilizations.

For example, they've equated Prussia to Germany as well, making a German civilization (with German cities) instead of a truly Prussian one.

They've also created a Norman civilization that's practically English, ignoring that the Norman were much more than just a royal dynasty of England.

Finally, they've also equated Spain to Castile. The exploration era Spanish civilization is mostly Castilian and Spain wouldn't be formed as a nation until 1714.

In summary, Great Britain or the Normans are not the same as England, Prussia is no the same as Germany and Spain is not the same as Castile.

At least the Norman city list has cities in Normandy itself like Rouen and Caen. And the Spanish city list is not constrained to Castile at all.

The British city list should at a minimum contain Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Dundee, Swansea and Newport - all of which were important industrial cities and towns.

Whether or not they plan to add a Scottish civ later is irrelevant - we already have duplicates of Norman cities in Lundres/London, Norwiche/Norwich and Nottingham/Nottingham.

I can see why they would avoid Dublin and Belfast, and for that matter, Calcutta. But given what settlements you are likely to be founding in the modern age, these overseas colonies would be quite fitting to the real history…

I’m not surprised - Civ city lists have never ever been good. At least they are easy to mod.

Kind of funny, since FXS hired and promoted a historian, who was introduced to assist them in that field, and eventually come up with stuff like what you have described above!

Actually just using chatgpt might yield better results than employing a so called 'expert'

Maybe they should hire me :)
