August 2020 Update - Patch Notes Discussion

Pillage everything and make cities rebel/loyalty flip, mainly through food and amenities loss.

This is how the AI should play, rather than attempting to capture cities.
-----

I think they have fixed AI settling resources without due consideration of loyalty pressure, which was a major complaint I had. I haven't seen this behaviour in a few months, though I've been playing less as well. Can anybody confirm?

Definitely agree. To my knowledge it seems only barbarians scouts will try to pillage everything in a barbarian siege situation, even AI Norway doesn't really do pillage during the war. AI shall be more annoying.

Pretty impressed with the AI during my most recent war. They're using their walls to full effect, hiding longbowmen behind them and prioritising my siege weapons as they see them. I've taken two cities but lost a fair few units and my military rank has taken a beating. I think I'll win, but they're making it hard! Good stuff.

What is a looting troll game?
Phase 1 - Forward settle your enemy and denounce them and leave your slingers as slingers and even your cities 1 turn away from walls, then watch them declare and die.
Phase 2 - loot thier lands, in particular luxes and food
Phase 3 - Take out the fat city or 2 and watch the empuire come tumbling down.

You do need to kill fat cities, you'll never get into the negatives otherwise and having Amani's -2 helps a lot but remember they declared on you and took one of your cities so you have plenty of grievance.

It is not fast nor efficient but different and fun

I like the Random Tech and Wonder Picker so far.

Now I just want a civ picker - I’ve seen Korea and Australia in the last four of my games and I want to strangle someone

I think the Yet (not) Another Maps Pack mod on Steam comes with an advanced setup, in which you can choose certain civs not to appear in the game.

Idk if its just me or that ever since the patch, campuses stopped obtaining bonus science when placed next to a mountain. So I would end up with a campus and no science before a library. Did the patch really change the science? or is it still the same?

I guess it could've been just me since I placed a campus next to ground and grass and there weren't any extra science when placed on a tile. However, I did have a nearby mountain and unfortunately didn't have any science either. :(

True but I like official content and get hung up on it, but that's a good reminder thanks!

The mountain adjacency bonus works just fine. Maybe you're using mods?
Yeah you're right maybe it was a mod. I tried again and it worked I had a campus with +6 next to 2 peaks and 1 global fissure. Please disregard the last post. :o
