Really silly question, im probbaly missing something simple. Is there any way to stop workers on automatic digging up forts I have placed down?

Um, I do remember constantly having anger issues with Workers building Forts on ADDITIONAL Resources.
Eg. if I already have a Banana, I'll get ALL additional Bananas "fortified".
Might be fixed as of recent versions, not sure, didn't check this lately.
This IS stupid, though.

If a resource is outside the range of a workable city but inside your borders, workers will build a fort on it.

I simply turn off forts in automation tab. If I want a fort, I build it manually. I also turn off burn forest/jungle/bamboo/mangroves so I save them for when I can get hammers for it. I turn off build cottages (early) and switch it on later when I start to chop down the forests, early on I instead make those lumberjack thingies.

One thing that should be changed if possible is to have an option do not replace existing improvement - except where resources are present. This would be handy!

Another could be Confirm before replacing improvement - similar to how we have the confirm chop forest, this would stop that ******** farm/cottage/farm/cottage/farm/cottage crap. I'm sure the fact that automated workers tend to do this REALLY harms the AI, especially mid/late game when they have nearly got towns up from there villages and the automated workers roll in and build workshops on top of them, then 10 turns later decide that cottage level 1 is actually better :wallbash:

I think it may have something to do with your city settings too, like if you are have prioritize hammers for the city, workers will then start ripping down your villages/town for watermills and workshops.. I think also when you are buildings things like settlers or workers, your workers are again inclined to rip down your cottages and stuff. Thats why its just generally a lot safer to have - don't replace improvements set to ON.

Ho Ly Carp O_O I never knew you could do this. It would always tick me off when they burned down my bamboo b4 I could make bamboo armor :p Going to have to go turn this one on.

yea i also just start looking through the options of Workers before i automate them i usually just do it myself and then let the AI do the Upgrading of the roads after having 20 orso cities that can get rather dull and annoying
