Automating Engineers

I've automated my engineers before, but I can't remember how to do it, and I can't find any documentation on it anywhere. HELP!!!!

Hmmm when you have an engineer/settler "on" then just look in the order menu - I think the key is "K" and then they start acting weird (Read - automatic)

I must say that I hardly ever use this function because I think that they don't do a very good job - and some times they just move from one end of the island to the other without any apparent reason!!!

I only use it, if I have a city in the center of the land with no water nearby so I can't build irrigation - then I press k because for some strange reason they can easily build irrigation without water if they are on automatic!!!

shadowdale, that never works for me, whenever my settlers/engineers are automated, they run for the nearest hill/mountain (even if it is outside city limits!) and mine it!

So I end up having to do the long irrigation over hills and thru forests to irrigate my city stuck in the middle of arid plains.

Magnus, your engineers have a disease referred to as "compulsive mining disorder for which there is no known cure at the present time, however to be on the safe side I suggest preventive measure so it does not spread throughout your engineer population : do not press K key, it means order unit to krap.
