I don't think it does change spammy messages. Unfortunately, one of the main motivators for spam is post-count. If people know that successive spam posts are going to be shoved together into one post, it hopefully reduces the incentive to post them in the first place. By the way - I don't actually care about post-count - its the spam count that I would like to see reduced.
