Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

If that's the bar we're using we should put down the measuring stick and grab a shovel just to see it.

Just need to see the borders :)
It's a question of priorities, actually. Development companies have limited resources and I wouldn't want Firaxis to put more efforts into UI at the cost of gameplay as UI is good enough.

I think Indonesia might need a terrain bias of some kind. I've rolled a number of games where she starts off in the polar region of the map. Next to water, sure, but otherwise in bad shape. (Interestingly Indonesia is one of the few civs that can make use of polar regions if they get lucky on sea resources, but generally speaking it's still a bad start roll).

Can anyone confirm if the government legacy bonuses have been fixed?
Is the GP screen now really fitted into the screen and needs no more scrolling left/right?
Also, are there any unmentioned changes in the patch?

AssignStartingPlots.lua is broken, if they don't roll out a hotfix this time, they never will...

(and YnAMP will get a couple new users I suppose...)

Some things I’ve noticed after my first game on emp. They could be coincidence but that will take more games to test.
1: Actually had a warrior attack my archers while in a city. It would switch through them though and ended up suiciding itself. Wish there had been more units to see what happened but it was a very early attack.
2: I managed several early trades that where an even lux for lux. As the game progressed they slowly started to want more but nothing as bad as what they were asking before.
3: No major amount of religious spam so far. I found several units but they weren’t bunched up. I didn’t notice the ai making good sue of the guru’s though. They seemed to be camping out near their holy sites alone while the rest ran amuck. Also I managed a religion even though I waited quite awhile to put up my holy sites.
4: Even though I took China’s cities early they had built two campuses and no holy sites. I also noticed another civ going science early on and ignoring religion till after.
5: There seemed to be more upgraded units around the Middle Ages compared to what I have been seeing. Also there was more warring between the civs without any intervention on my part. I was playing mostly peaceful after my original conquest. I didn’t really see any cities being taken though but I wasn’t close enough to see if there was any actual attacked taking place.
6: It didn’t seem like the city states were being taken like they were before. I saw one conquered early but the majority were still there late in the game.
7: More naval units but I didn’t really see the ai using them much in that game. I can tell more in my next game because I plan on declaring more war.
8: My religious game still was very easy, at least on this difficulty. Many times they didn’t attack my units when left wide open and they would run their units straight to my apostles.
These were just some things that stood out to me this game but as I said, I will be able to tell more after a few games. I never bothered with spies so I didn’t get a good look at what disctricts were being built. Has anyone noticed if they are building commerce and industry?

Regarding point #8: You could check the Great People menu to see who is gathering GPP. That way you can see what districts the AI build. I'm very curious. The summerpatch seemed to set AI preference for commercial hubs to very low. Can you confirm they are building them again?

Anyone got experience with naval combat so far? I`m more or less landlocked on my first game

AI now makes smart use of submarines. They pillage as many tiles as they can.

On the religion side of things, I noticed that the religion lens is different from the one shown in livestream. I cannot see the religion bar below the city banner.

Edit: My religion lens was not showing similar to the one in live stream because of Suzerain at a Glance mod.

I went back to the only save I have and around 1320AD Persia had one commercial hub with a market. England had one industrial zone but no buildings yet. There were a few theater districts and campuses also. I don’t have any later saves and I already started a new game so there is no auto saves left. I’ll have to pay better attention this time.

For those interested, a summary of my first experience with the patch:

I played Indonesia on SEA TSL on Emperor last night, up until renaissance. I Found it very hard to get production going on the tiny starting island and the Kampung feel a bit underwhelming in that regard. The additional Production per adjacent Fishing Boat only kicks in at Civil Engineering, despite the loading screen toolltip suggesting otherwise. Civilipedia clearly states that it's only later on, but I had already gone out of my way to purchase some 3rd ring sea resources just to be able to get extra production going.

Trying to tackle the production problem, I went for Meeting Houses, which seemed the right choice given the pantheon belief I chose of +1 faith per tile with charming or greater appeal (can't recall the name). I produced so much faith, that I could quite easily build a 'free' navy thanks to the Indonesia trait to explore and try to settle surrounding islands, though they were swarming with barbarians..

Trying to spread my faith to another civ for the first time, I ran into Khmer, who founded a religion the turn my missionary arrived at his doorstep. Which leads me to believe that getting a religion should be more realistic in this build on higher difficulties. Going further north though, I ran into the real problem called China. By the time I was about to reach renaissance, they had just hit Modern, had double my science (I was 2nd/7) and out cultured me like crazy. Obviously pumping out wonders like madmen.

Im not sure I chose the correct path in this game, but I feel it will be very hard to ever compete with China on this TSL map. At least with Indonesia.

Oh, also found a bug with Indonesia. When you get the Jong, you can no longer build the Quad, which is fine; however, if you have a task at a City State for a Quad, it won't clear :(
Good to know, I also have one such quest in my game. But I can still solve it! ^^" Also, you could declare war on the city state and then make peace?

AI is still not escorting settlers. You have to have very strong willpower not to just declare war and swipe settlers with your scout.

It seems to escort them, just somewhat weirdly - a military unit will join when it's deemed 'unsafe' (that's probably too late normally). I've seen some promising behavior from the AI settlers yesterday though. Cleopatra (declared friend) walked her settler (with a warrior a few tiles away) between by cities with obvious intentions. Though, after I moved a couple warriors near the settler, it was soon joined by her warrior (and they entered formation) (however, if we weren't declared friends, I'd have time to steal the settler before the warrior came). After that, instead of freezing forever, as before, they sodded off and forward-settled me on the other side (where I mind less) :D

Also, they seem to build at least their second and third cities somewhere close to the capital.

Having said that, I was archer-rushing Scythia (you archer-rush her before she horse-rushes you, right?), and despite having units garrisoned, she was counter-attacking me with scouts and... a builder  Well, at least she was counter-attacking or it looked so. She literally moved the builder out of the city towards my warrior who happily captured it.

No, only changed the icons, still need to scroll.
I think they did move the Prophet to the far right, now. So there is much less scrolling involved, since other GP are rarely earned before the prophets are sold out anyway
