Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

Yeesh, so gonna be stuck with the vanilla UI for a while; how is it?

I'm not sure this is a bug. It always felt like a bug you could actually save them, tbh. So to me this sounds as if this is what is intended.

I remember in the initial lets plays, Ed said that was the original plan (force you to use them as you earned them) but that they explicitly changed that to allow you to use them.

So, if I don't meet any CS's for a while, then have 6 envoys saved up, I sure hope I don't meet the wrong one first.... geesh.

EDIT: Okay, so I just reloaded from configuration settings, and it's not only the same settings, it's the exact same map and I'm sitting in the exact same location. Guess that wasn't fixed....

EDIT 2: So, deleting out the seeds from the game and map works for regenerating a new random game from a saved config. Just have to remember that every time now.

Okay, deleted like 11 files and re-acquired them. Play now button seems to work, but that was just a test. I really don't want a random game, I want to play island plates as Indonesia. ]

Okay, my game as Indonesia is starting. Island plates, standard size, 3 extra civs, less city states, new world that is hot and arid.

So it seems that when you verify the integrity of game files, it's not actually looking inside the excel files to make sure everything is as what should be. I'm guessing it only checks that the file is there. I deleted every file I recall editing (I think I got them all), and it seems to be working. Whatever was in that file was incompatible with the new patch for whatever reason.

Yes I'm sure it's not mods
Then I suggest you try to validate your files, as I just started a new game and on turn 40 I just got a new envoy, opened the window, closed it without assigning said envoy, and ended the turn just fine.

Major hidden optimization in patch, my turns and everything is super crispy.

....

Oh, wait, it generated a huge map with six civs (12 in settings) and 0 city states(24 requested in settings)... So with the other mentioned problems with starting settler getting placed to close so one has to move, I think we have gone from slightly broken, to completely broken map generation and since Firaxis doesn't release patches, but DLC+update, we are hosed for many months.

They do hotfixes for bugs deemed big enough by 2k

Do you know that you can force the turn to end by right clicking the button? Did you try that?

I didn't know that... but I tried it, and it didn't work.

In the meantime, another small bug:

Normally when selecting new policy cards, you can trade your currently-in-effect cards to the "card bank", OR the other way. However right now, it seems you can ONLY drag from the card bank to over-write in-effect cards. It seems this only happens if you go to "change policies" when the next-turn icon has it, go to government screen, and then back to change policies. This may only happen when a policy you had in effect becomes obsolete.

So would God of Sea be better than City Patron goddess? (the new pantheon that gives +25% to first district). Hard to say. I like to think god of the sea will be better of the long run, I'll go with that one.

haha, sweet, got my pantheon before developing Code of Laws (as Indonesia). Like this faith so far.

Did you perchance NOT start a fresh game under the new patch? As I said, I could end the turn just fine in my freshly started game.

Really not into the new diplomacy UI. It unnecessarily takes up so much space (so much of which is unused), requires more clicks than before, and almost entirely hides the leader background art :(

I've had that issue sporadically since the spring patch.

Not sure if this has already been stated, but the following leaders now have a lower preference for Religion:

Gilgamesh, Gorgo, Pericles, Alexander, Teddy, Qin Shi Huang, Trajan, Victoria, John Curtin.

City Patron seems really cool in theory. However, if your city is brand new when you're making new districts, and you don't have much production anyhow, 25% might be a very small bonus. It'll be fun to try though.

It is a new game, I'm Indonesia.

And do you mean, you could end the turn while having envoys stacked up and ready to be sent? I can end the turn just fine when there's no envoys.

I'm dead serious about the leader animations -- does anyone else like the new "blurred" actions? Maybe my fps is off or something.

It's so bad I'm about ready to turn off animations completely.

Not too bad. Indonesia needs rivers far less than most other civics. Build a harbor one tile east, a marine wonder one tile northeast (any would be good for Indonesia and most have to be adj to harbor) and a theater district on the island two tiles to the NE. Would get you a +4 theater (only Japan, Greece and maybe Australia can get close to that) and a +4 harbor, not too bad. Spam your unique improvement around your sea resources for food, prod and housing and you have a strong island city as Indonesia was intended to be. Downsides are you no chance for culture victory (can't really afford to waste tiles for parks, resorts and terrestrial wonders) and the lack of forest/jungle for chopping.
