Autumn 2017 Patch General Discussion

Did they fix the bug of Sean Bean not saying the quotes? I am a Mac user, so I cannot play right now.

Okay, so I had to turn down my monitor settings (only to account for the blur) -- when I set Performance Impact and Memory Impact to Medium, the blur is no longer there -- the actions aren't quite as crisp, but that's totally okay. ;)

Ok, so a combination of both worked, which is good.

But could you say for certain that the poor performance was due purely
to the new monitor setting, or just the new game settings?

Love that all religious units -with their new unit shape- now look like devils haha

Did you clear out .sqlite files, .json files, .log files, save files, and all the
other old crud in the My Games/ subdirectories after downloading the
update, installing the dlc, and then turning the computer off first?

No, I just had steam download the new updates, went ingame, disabled all community content (the only stuff I had was civs anyway, no gameplay changes, but regardless I disabled them) and started a new game.

How's everyone's issues with diplomacy?

AI's seem really easy to get friendly status, but no one is offering declarations of friendship. Interesting.

One thing is for sure, although it was something I noticed last patch, the AI is forward settling each other's capitals as well as myself very badly. It was an issue in Civ 5, but not this bad, and only certain civs tended to do alot (Siam, etc.). I don't know if that is on purpose from the devs or not, but it's kinda cheesy to me. They cannot defend those crap cities at all and they had plenty room to settle along a river next to their own capital.

Hasn't this always been the case. I remember people saying the developers made them to this as a way of forcing the action. It's a terribly flawed design, though. The AI isn't good enough to make warfare engaging, the diplomatic penalties for clearing out poorly placed cities is too harsh, and the AI really shouldn't be wasting resources just to troll players. They should prioritize building optimally placed cities, not trying to pick a fight they have no chance of winning.

Ugh, so still an AI love-fest like last patch?

The new diplomacy tabs should have had a toggle for whether or not the player wanted to default to the first tab when opening Diplomacy or not. Congratulations on adding extra clicks for no reason.

Edit- I'm looking at this in-game again and just shaking my head in thinking that I can't believe that the Diplomacy UI in the base game was clearer and had less clicks than this.

Not sure if someone already answered this but here's the list of non-religious leaders in this patch, assuming thats what "low religious preference" means.

As Australia I got friendlies from Git, and Jadwiga (hey, they're only human!)
If I ever punched someone for the first time, and I could choose anyone in the
world, it would be Alexander.
Not for anything he did, or represented, but just to re-arrange that face.

Removed some of the least useful Gossip messages to improve signal to noise:

Please please just let us customize what I consider "noise" or not. Give us a filter please, on this, and also on notifications in general!

I have never had a crash since the 1st release a year ago (except on mods under
development with stupidly large maps and about 60+ civs and city states.)

I clear out all the files I mentioned after every patch, dlc, and new mod release.
You can't trust Firaxis/Steam to correctly update those files, or any mods.
It's annoying to re-select game and graphic options, but you don't have to do
it very often.

Good luck!

I had to change the setting and take the settings down from what they have been since the first day the game was out (and it was installed) -- and the rest of the game was still fine, just not the blur on the leader screens, which was awful.

This is on a 60hz monitor btw (nothing fancy, but it works great otherwise).

Trying to change the leader settings in options doesn't seem to do much -- it's almost like all or nothing. Of course, it's one single selection which is part of the problem -- they need to have more options specifically for those graphics after adding the blur.

Does anyone have a clue as to why someone would intentionally blur the graphics? Maybe it is just not working as intended.
