Ayn Rand's Objectivism

This is why im not a card-carrying libertarian. I agree with about 95% of the objectivist doctrine, and yet i cant stand the company of other objectivists.

The reason i agree with objectivism is not because i believe humans are not capable of completely selfless acts, its because i have never had the opportunity to perform a completely selfless act, and i dont think that such opportunities appear more than a few times in a lifetime. 99.99% of the times people act to benefit themselves, either directly or indirectly. You give a man a fish, you feel satisfied that you helped someone out. You teach a man to fish, and you feel even more satisfied cause you know youll never have to give him another fish. But yeah, i just thought yall would like to hear my opinion.
So you don't have any sense of empathy ? You never cry while watching movies ? You never feel guilty about having hurt other people for no reason in the past ? You're never horrified by any event happening ?

I've read a bit about objectivism since this thread is out and the only thing I can say is that it's only superficial thinking. There's nothing deeply thought in this. A kid could have invented it. What is called "objectivism" is simply a pathetic attempt to objectivize something properly subjective, which is our own perception and self-interest.

I think you need to do a little more reading, because something tells me you haven't gotten past the word "objectivism" - and quotes like "A kid could have invented it.", hardly help your credibility...

"Objectivism" refers to the fact that reality is objective, i.e. it is not dependent on our senses. It is one's perception of reality that is subjective. I hope this helps...

Reality is objective, perception is subjective. What's new over here ? That's the common definition of concepts.

As human being (or any other being), it's impossible to conceive the world out of our sense. As such we cannot reach objectivity. Believing we can reach it is already a non-sense... and it's getting even worse when it's about fulfilling self-interests. Here we reach a paradoxe.

But more globally, the big problem is that Objectivism refutes any ideology or religion in being subjective... and consider that another ideology, the pursuit of our selfish interests without caring of anyone around, is what should be followen. Not only it's stupid tho say our self-interest is objective, but the real problem lies in the fact that it's about rejecting other ideologies for a new one. In considering that we should behave only according to our proper self-interests, Objectivists determine a new set of moral values, a new ideology. The simple fact they aren't able to see that proves that it's only a superficial analysis.

Sorry LordRahl if I break anything to you but this is superficial thinking.
