B1 - Aztec Succession game

Preturn: tweaked production, Leo's now in 11 instead of 13 turns. All cities building units switched to barracks and rushed. Science dropped to 10%.
The French begin Magellan's Voyage.

1) 1130 Science back at 40%

2) 1140 cities with no defenders rush them. Worker groups begin to form as workers finish projects independantly.

3) 1150 The great literature project begins as cities begin production of libraries when their current project is completed.

4) 1160 Democracy learned, chemistry begun. Anarchy, and instant Democracy :crazyeyes

5) 1170 Teo switched to JS Bach's Cathedral. Probably too late, but it will give us a jump on ToE.
The Germans are building Magellan's Voyage.

6) 1180

7) 1190

8) 1200

9) 1210 Chem learned, Physics ordered.
Egyptians begin Leo's.

10) 1220

11) 1230

12) 1240 Leo's copleted in Teno. America begins JS Bach's. Iroquois begins Bach's. Iroquois begin Magellan's. Romans begin Bach's. Romans begin Magellan's. Greeks begin Bach's. Greeks begin Magellan's. Egyptians begin Magellan's. French begin Magellan's. Germans begin Bach's.
America declares war on us. Atzcapotzalco musketmen fall to American cavalry inflicting no damage. Several workers captured.

13) 1250 Iroquois silk deal for 15 gpt cancelled, Iroquois take silks to declare war on America and 10 gpt. Rome declares war on America for RoP, WM, and 50 gold. Egypt declares war on America for dyes. Russia silk for 5gpt cancelled, Russia declares war on America for silks, WM, and 25 gold. All of our neighbors are at war with America now, hopefully are pitiful defences won't be tested.

14) 1255

15) 1260 Babylon begins Smith's.

16) 1265 4 American knights killed in Atzcapotzalco, but they have more defenders. Russia kills another American knight. Greek stops selling us wine for 31 gpt. Greeks begin Smith's.

17) 1270 The last American knight in Atzcapotzalco is defeated, the city is once more ours, along with the captured workers. Iroquios give us Economics and 6 gpt for furs. They will give us Metallurgy for 200 gold, but that is almost our entire treasury right now.

18)

19) 1275 Physics learned, Theory of Gravity ordered.

20) 1280 I go ahead and buy metallurgy for 200 gold from the Romans.

The war with america isn't an issue right now, just don't make peace before the alliances with the other civs are over.

Not much time to play as I had people round here earlier this evening. I got 12 turns in, but the summary will be short and sweet as it's getting near bed-time...

I ascertain the following;

(1) Most cities are on infrastructure, therefore it looks like the intention is to concentrate on that, although I did add a few units to our border cities for defence.

(2) War with America - we have military alliances with Egypt, Russia, Iroquois and Rome. Therefore any peace treaty with America will trash our reputation if it is signed while alliances are in effect.

Here's how things went...

Inherited turn:
I swapped a few citizens around in Madras to max out production at no growth pending an aquaduct. Spent this turn and all following turns watching stacks of Egyptian and Iroquois units moving through our land on their way to America. Started aquaducts at Madras and Calcutta to allow further growth. Started cathedrals at a number of cities where happiness looks like it'll become an issue in the near future.

(1) 1285AD
Begin program of fortifying border cities. This is secondary to improving economy and infrastructure.

(2) 1290AD
Some aquaducts complete and I move citizens around to allow further growth. Worker teams start mining and clearing jungle. Babylonians complete Magellan's Voyage at Babylon.

(3) 1295AD
Nothing much. I'm bored so I upgrade a random spearman to a musketman. Germany flatly refuse to sell Military Tradition. Hordes of Egyption knights are travelling through our lands. Everyone cascades to Shakespear's Theater or Adam Smith's. I look round our empire and can't believe how poor the productivity in our core cities is.

(4) 1300AD
Micromanaging cities as mines come online to boost productivity.

(5) 1305AD
French build JS Bach's Cathedral in Paris. I switch Teotihuacan to Adam Smiths, but doubt if we'll get it though.

(6) 1310AD
(7) 1315AD
We research Theory of Gravity and start Magnetism. Adam Smith's is built by Babylonians in Ninevah. Fortunately we can switch to Newton's Academy and will get it next turn with the loss of a few shields.

(8) 1320AD
Newton's Academy completed in Teotihuacan. I switch to Palace placeholder possibly for Theory of Evolution. Egypt completes Shakespeare's Theater in Thebes.

(9) 1325AD
Revolt staved off at Karachi by turning a citizen into an entertainer. A cathedral is started there.

(10) 1330AD
(11) 1335AD
Magnetism is discovered and we enter the Industrial Age. After some deliberation I choose Steam Power over Nationalism, because once we get rails the AI can't hold a candle to human warmongering ingenuity, and because of the commerce / food / shield bonuses that will help us get a leg up on other research.

(12) 1340AD
Not much

Notes:
Teotihuacan is on palace placeholder for a future wonder.

Here's the save...

Attachments are down for a couple of days.

Brian will have to supply an e-mail address for you to send him the zipped game directly.

If not, the game is on hold to fri / sat.

Preturn 1340 AD:
Babylon offers us Free Artistry for our territory map. Sure, why not?
Germany and Egypt have signed a military alliance against America. Great, we get to see German troops marching across our soil!

1345 AD:
Quiet

1350 AD:
Iroquois and America sign a peace treaty!

1355 AD:
Our people want to build Wall Street!

1360 AD:
England and Germany sign a military alliance against America.

Rome wants to cancel the ROP and alliance against America. They want World map and 220 gold to continue it. I decline. I do buy Military Tradition for 70 gold however. I grow jealous watching Russian cossacks cross our territory. Curious move on Ceasers part. They have a stack of knights mired in our lands now, only able to move 1 tile/turn.

1365 AD:
Greece wants 180 gold for their world map. I decline.

France and America sign a trade embargo against us! (Foreign advisor says "Didn't I tell you they were evil?") Were we even trading with France?

Wall Street is started in Teno.
I realize we don't have a road to Delhi, and start building one.

We get a Trade Embargo against the Americans with the Iroquois. (So there)

We sell Germany Silks for 7gpt.

Noone wants to trade us nationalism. Wonder why?
Just for fun, I try negotiating with Joan. She seems willing to trade if only we had something she wanted. So much for the embargo!

1370 AD:
Karachi needs to be linked up with Delhi, more irrigated plains needed.

1375 AD:
Cleo of the Egyptians thinks we deserve to give her tribute. I laugh in her face.
She backs down. I give her our world map to help relations.

1380 AD:
Lincoln wants peace. We ignore him as we still have outstanding alliances.

1385 AD:
England and Germany have signed a MPP
Iroquois wants to sell their worls map for 160 gold plus ours. No.

I settle Brianville between Delhi and Karachi.

Germany offers 13 gpt for Horses. I would rather have Nationalism. No deal. Let them slog through our territory 1 turn at a time.

1390 AD:

Thats all the time I have now.. Mostly infrastructure.
Steam power in 2 turns, Wall Street in Teno, Palace still going in Teo.

Lee you have your peaceful turns.. war with America could probably end soon. I didn't check how much time was left.

Pre-turn -
I switch the 3 Indian cities behind the Iroqouis to workers. Why build improvement with lousy land?

I can't see the justification for queue of shields right know, so palace to Wall street.
France declares war on Greece.

1395 AD - GACK, we are GROSSLY over irragated. We have +10 food in Texcoco.
Germany and Greece sign a military alliance vs. France. Next to research - Industrialization.
Some town can build Iron Works!
England declares war on France.
1400 AD - The town is Delhi, very close to the FP :)
1430 AD - We complete Wall street. The treasury is so low, we won't get the full effect for a long time.
1435 AD - Peace between Egypt and America.
1440 AD - France and Greece sign a peace treaty.
1455 AD - Next up medicine.
1460 AD - Switch anything with reasonable production to Factory. America and Russia sign a peace treaty.
1465 AD - France and Germany sign a peace treaty. America and England sign a peace treaty.
:( So much for peaceful turns, Greece declares war on us :(
1470 AD - So far Greece loses 3 cavs for 1 knight. Wake up units to send to the front. Upgrade some knights to calvary as we are above $1000.
1475 AD - Greece kills 2, losses 1. Iroqoius and Russia sign an MPP.
1480 AD - Greece lands a calvary by Punjab. I perform and emergency upgrade to Musketman and pray.
Another trade embargo, Greece and Germany.
The emergency upgrade fails, and Punjab is Greek.
Greeks begin Suffrage.
1485 AD - Russia declares war on Greece, Punjab now is Russian hands. The Iroqoius declare war on Greece.
We start Suffrage, with a factory all ready built. Babs start Suffrage.

Summary - I am concentrating on Factories. Let's rush toward ToE. You know get the techs you research, so this would also get us Hoover dam most likely.

I had the Indian cities building harbours so they could grow using the sea.. oh well. Maybe that was a waste of time..

Preturn: Traded Steam Power to Rome for Nationalism and World Map. Other nations have Steam already, so its our best bet to pick up Nationalism for cheap. Began upgrading to Rifleman, trying to stay over 1000 in the bank. Greece captures Hannover(I didn't notice from who), and send a small invasion force towards Karachi.

1, 1495: Counterattack on the Greek invasion ends with 5 dead Cavalry for them, 1 for us and 2 new Elites for us. Signed RoP with the Romans, since they seem to be heading for the Greeks. Signed Alliance with the Iroqouis against the Greeks. The Russians demand we remove our troops from their territory. I ask for a RoP, they refuse. I turn around and demand the same of them. They whine about us not trusting them, right after telling me they don't trust us. Bastids. Greeks attack and kill one of the Elite Cavalry. The Iroqouis begin Universal Sufferage, so I trade Industrialization to the Romans for Communism and World map.

2, 1500: Upgrading units mostly.

3, 1505: Crushed what appears to be the last of the Greek invasion. Dropped about a dozen cavalry right next to Hannover, shouldn't have a problem taking it next turn. Unfortunately, a storm just hit here, so I'm going to have to cut this way short. The power is acting funny, thankfully my UPS stopped any surges and kept my pc from crashing mid game. Rather than risk anything I'm going to shut down for the night.

Nanook, wh don't you finish your turn tomorrow? I probably won't have time to play both this one and B2 tomorrow anyway.

If you see this and pick up from where you left off, let me know.

Getting mixed up between my own succession games!

Since Nanook hasn't appeared to play out his turn, Shdwlord is next.

I'm sorry about not being able to get back. I finally have a closing date for my house(this Thursday yay!) and all the craziness of the last minute stuff is going on. I'll try and check back more often, but no promises. And once Thursday hits I'm going to be offline for a day or two completely while I move into my new house.
