Babylonian special ability

The Babylonians are a special civ only for a promotion on one of the download websites. No one has had a chance to play it and no magazine has reviewed it.

I've been thinking about this. They've given very little info on Babylon.

Unique Unit would likely be a Bowman because they probably aren't going to think of anything better (and because Archers were extremely important in mesopotamian warfare). I can't think of a second UU (well, aside from pointing out the Chariot/Horse Archer warfare of Mesopotamia, but nothing specifically Babylonian), so a UB could be possible. But the only thing I can think of would be a Ziggaurat and they were far more Sumerian than Babylonian (unless we want to preclude the possibility of Sumer later).

Now for the unique ability. The thing I think of with Babylon is it's enormous cultural and religious influence on mesopotamia, especially with religion.

That being said, the thing most people think of is the Code of Hammurabi. While I'm just ripping off the idea of the Code of Justinian in the expansion ideas thread, I'll suggest it'll be something related to that. Perhaps a courthouse bonus mixed with social policy bonuses.

The press release implies the UU is the Babylonian Bowman: http://www.businesswire.com/portal/...d=news_view&newsId=20100506005969&newsLang=en

Sid Meier’s Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition will expand players’ conquests with the new Babylonian civilization and their ruler, Nebuchadnezzar II (c. 630 – c. 561 B.C.). As King of Babylon, gamers will be able to expand their empire with advanced Babylonian Bowmen to rightfully earn the title of Nebuchadnezzar the Great. Sid Meier’s Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition will also include an in-depth “Behind the Scenes at Firaxis with Civilization V” video feature, as well as the game’s epic soundtrack.

No idea on a second UU or (more likely, imo) UB. Likely a Ziggaraut of some kind though.

My friend played civ5 for an hour on gamescon. I asked about babylon, he said it was there. But he didnt remember the ability.

Their UU will be something not entirely different to a Corporate Executive that we all know in Civ 4. You will be able to go into enemies cities with it to force them to pay 10 extra gold to build you Babylonian Bowman.

The Babyloian UA will be to that all other Civ abilities are null and void.
Super Powerful Civ UA only available to Deluxe edition buyers, FTW!

HAHAHA well then Aztec could have an UU called druglord you can use to bring down happiness in other countries with the cost of increasing your corruption

Bring down happiness? I'm afraid imma have to invite you over to the dark side. :scan:

yeah i figured someone would disagree with me on this one :( but if u would increase population happiness and corrupt rival countries' government, then why would u ban drugs in the first place...

My guess would be that the bowman might have a strength bonus, rather than a ranged combat bonus.

So, same ranged ability, but much better in melee, and so more resistant to enemy attacks.
