I'm thinking about making the Prince-Monarch jump. Since I'm a big old scaredy-cat, I want to make it as easy as possible. (Well, and also I have limited time to play, so I'd like to have a shot at winning.)

So, my question: which leader and which settings?

I'm thinking a leader with strong traits and an early UU. Monty would be fine except his UU kinda sucks. Elizabeth would be great, except Redcoats come a bit late. Hatty's UU is awesome... maybe Hatty?

Settings: continents? Pangaea? Fractal? Assume I am a better builder than warrior.

Suggestions?

hatty is a nice leaders for beginers and was the first or second leader i won with on monarch(the other beeing the old toku). I allways favour small pangea when moving up a level as that makes the game so much easier it is not funny:p. I also prefer the rocky option though this might just depend on playstyle. High sealevel too i guess.

For an easy start pick a financial leader and play a fantasy map. When you have 2 oasis in your BFC you are set. These babies normally give you 4f/3c or 3f/2h/3c straight of the bat. This will ensure your tech lead.

If you want to play a normal game and have warlords pick Shaka. For some reason I have never won a monarch game this easily. Scored 50k and I am just playing monarch games.

If you have warlords, go with ramsses of egypt. He has a great early UU and is good for building. If not, you could go with Ceasar, he seems to be popular when people want to take it easy

In my experience, the biggest problem with Monarch is how fast the AI expands. Be prepared for some early warfare or you'll be boxed in in no time. For that reason, a leader with an early UU would be good, maybe Hatshepsut or Cyrus.

Yes, Cyrus the Virus is great. His Immortal is slightly better than the Egyptian WC, in my book. This because of his bonus towards archery units (not only archer, but later as a sweeper unit against beat-up longbows as well). His trait-combo gives you a lot of GG and highly promoted units.
Because of the archer-bonus I usualy keep them around until I have Guilds. You don't need Horse Archers. A knight with combat 4 is a beast in it's time.

Edit: Good luck, by the way!

augustus is another favourite. Creative means you dont have to worry about culture and organized get your economy in shape so much faster. He also have what very many consider the best UU around in the pretorians. Personaly i favour mansa but i am not sure if he is the easiest to play. Old catrine(from vanilla) was another great choice. If you know how to handle the cultural side there are loads more options(ie non-creative leaders). I would say the creative leaders are "easiest" at least thats what i have found if not the most powerfull around.
