Back to Civ 3

Try installing Catalyst 4.12 drivers, it helped me so much. No more CTD's or lag.
Though the amount of RAM you have still might cause some lagging.

Damn Civ4 has been expensive for me. :) First I bought another 512mb stick of RAM and now a new video card. Oh well, it's worth it. ;)
(and with all the new games coming out somewhat soon [Oblivion,NWN2], I would've had to upgrade anyway.)

EDIT: And for comparison, my video card ATM is Ati Radeon 9550. Getting the new card on Monday.

Getting over 1GB is even better since this get rid of file swapping all together. With 512mb Civ4 has to swap files too much without Harkennon's patch. Harkennon patch reduce memory use which reduce file swapping a lot which would be the cheaper route to take if you don't want to buy more ram.

@ Kaene
PC is a hobby. So You are right about needing more ram and a better video card for future games.

Have you ever played civ in the park or in front of the TV . . . or at work (never)??
I have in front of my TV since my desktop is position so I can watch TV. In my living room I got 2 PC (had three but gave one away) two PS2 with home theater system with two TV. Also got two monitors hooked up to my newest PC. Maybe I shouldn't call it a living room but an arcade. :)

I was heading in that direction but, in the end, decided that a divorce was too expensive.
