I started a new game today, (France, Emperor, Double your pleasure rules, world map, 14 Civs) and when I got to around 680 A.D. I had a funny surprise, a giant barbarian uprising from Scandinavia! I guess I was a little too late in colonizing that part, I wanted to close down the AI's borders first.
So I amass all my knights and get most of my cities making barracks/pikemen/knights to fend off and eventually kill the barbarians (I didnt count them all, but I think there's 24+ riders which are 4/3/2 with 4 hp) so I could colonize that area. Then I see a cheeky Korean settler and spearsman far away from home, marching right into the barbarian territory to start a town. I laugh to myself, thinking about how badly they will get slaughtered. But when they came just one tile distance from the barbarian riders, the barbs just decided to run right past them and head for my units which were three tiles away instead of their one, which really annoyed me cause they let the Koreans settle on MY territory. >_<
So I guess my question is: Does the AI have a secret alliance with the barbarians at higher levels?
WOE IS ME.
