Basic noob question: mac vs. PC pbem?

I'm looking for a pbem strategy game to play with some PC friends. Checked the FAQ's but can seem to find an answer - is it possible to pbem between mac an pc versions?

It's possible SG with a Mac/PC combo, so I guess PBEM should be any different. In fact, I don't think I've ever played a SG without having a Mas-user on the team.

If I read the description correctly, this might not answer my question. I'm looking to do a multiplayer game -ie: each player would be a different civ, and pass it around via email between mac and pc users.

I'm guessing that, since SGs work properly, the Mac and PC versions are similar enough that PBEM should work.

Not sure under OSX in Civ3, but I used to play some great PBEM games in OS9 with Civ2 (especially a Napoleonic scenario... ahh them was the days) and I always had to change the saved game file type, and add ".txt" suffixes. I guess that doesn't help much!

You can't play PBEM on the mac, because the Civ3 lacks the feature. PTW or C3C is needed. However, you can play SG's, where multiple person play the same civ for a set number of turns, working toward an agreed upon goal, usually.

PBEM requires multiple human player capability, and that's not available in version 1.29. You can't define more (or less) than one human player.

Play By E-Mail. The game operates with multiple human players, each playing a different civ. Each player takes it in turns to play a turn and emails the game to the next player. You can't play it with the Mac version because it requires the multi-player feature that was only introduced in the Play The World expansion.

"Play the World" (PTW) is not available for the mac. It was never published for our platform.

Yes you would both need Play The World (or Conquests which includes it). No you can't do it on a Mac. As stated above Play he World doesn't exist for the Mac..

Multiplayer can also be used for online games between PC users via a LAN or across the Internet.

It must be, as people do it. I can't imagine why myself, but each to their own

That's a subject of some speculation. Check recent threads here for discussions. BTW - Your question implies that you realise Civ3 doesn't do PC-Mac gameplay, so I'm not sure why you asked the first question

PS. You *can* play Civ3 against PC players, in single-player Games of the Month where all players start from the same 4000 BC save and see who can win fastest and/or with the highest score.
