Any Battlefield 1942- The Road To Rome playerse here?

I need some inside tips on how to beat Monte Cassino without cheats. Thanks :)

Monte Cassino? is that the one with the hill?

and whitch side are you on?

hmmm... it really depends, Battlefield 1942 is great because of its gameplay, Road to rome was kind of a let down but it had some decent maps and gave you the ability to bayonnet things if your an engineer.

Secret Weapons was great because they added motorcycles with carriages and things like jets, however they did get a bit silly with things like jetpacks, but they're hard to find so you barely notice, Sturmtigers were also really interesting

1942 is a bit outdated but the gameplay is solid, if your looking for anything besides just a battle its not going to stack up well agianst things like Battlefield 2, however I still play it to this day and like it.....

for 25 Dollars.... I would most likely buy it, I've convinced a friend of mine to buy vanillia for $10 so thats really quite reasonable

Yup, the one with the hill. I'm playing as the Axis. I've tried being everything from an engineer to a scout, and nothing seems to work. I am playing on "Impossible" so that is why it is so tough. But the friggin Priest tanks or whatever are invincible. Their fire is impossible to dodge and hide from. I could be behind on of the stone walls, completely hidden, and I still get killed since it shoots over with ~100% accuracy.

Any key suggestions? Have you beaten the map? Thanks :)

@PrinceScamp: I say they're worth buying and playing single-player. I'm not sure how great they'd be for multi player though.

if I remember correctly you really cant do much to hold them off.... the best I could do was try your hardest to kill the enemy, dont hide behind a wall you should be firing at them until someone kills you

basically run at them, shoot at them while doing it... even if you only kill 2 people thats 2 more your squad doesnt have to worry about for long

You're the Axis, eh? This is a very hard level for them, as I'm sure you've noticed.

You know what, I'm going to go play it right now, and I'll edit this post and tell you what you should do. It's been a long time since I've played, and I don't quite remember the level too well.

Yeah, that's a difficult level, but it is doable on Impossible. Basically there are two strategies that can work pretty well:

1. Artillery man. Spawn at the closest point to the French, and grab the artillery. Immediately kill any armored unit that comes into sight, if none are in sight go for infantry. At the very start, aim for the area behind the bridge and try to get a few guys that way. You can hold them off for a pretty long time this way if you hit the armor quickly enough, enough that the ticket count goes in Germany's favor.

2. Sniper. IIRC this isn't quite as effective, but at least you can respawn (unlike the artillery that after it is dead is, well, dead). Take a position either by the artillery or close behind it, making sure you have shelter for reloading and hiding from Priests, as well as extra ammo for resupply, and target anyone who comes into view. The bridge is a good default target. If you shoot well enough, the rest of your team ought to be able to hold off the French armor.

Rambo-style charges aren't really effective on this map. You spend too much time waiting to respawn and too many times the French snipers will kill you before you kill anyone, and Germany gets overrun pretty quickly. The key is not dying. Eventually the French will reach your point, but if the tickets are in your favor by then you have done well.

I know I've won this one before on Impossible AI, Normal Troop Ratio, and Normal Death Penalty. Been awhile since I played Monte Cassino, but I think my memory of the map is pretty accurate.

PrinceScamp, I'd say it's well-worth the $25 CAD, especially if you don't have any newer shooters you're used to. I bought the full BF1942 and BF Vietnam in a set for $30 US and consider it one of the best deals I've gotten (CivIII being the all-time best of course).

When it says "Impossible" for this level, they sure aren't kidding!

Engineer: Although a very logical choice, not very practical in this map. It takes too long to place mines which have a very low chance of even being set off. Plus, in the time it takes to lay them, the Priest Tanks are already blowing me to shreds. The dynamite isn't very effective either due to very few chokepoints.

Medic: Seems like a good choice and very well may be, but I haven't been able to come close to victory with this. In the time it takes to heal myself, I am either too far away from the action (since I have to hide from the tanks) or I am completely defenseless against the current wave of attackers.

Assault: A big "meh" for this. The axis assault rifle isn't very good for long-range, and I cannot take out large waves of infantry with it due to the Allied tanks.

Anti-Tank: This is the best choice I've used so-far since I can take out tanks and infantry. However, it takes too long to take out the enemy tanks and by that time I'm already being killed and not much support from my computer teammates.

Scout: I've had some success with this choice, but I would need to know if using the binoculors actually has any effect in this map. I haven't noticed any. However, sniping is also virtually impossible in the map as well because of the tanks. If there was a way to take care of the tanks, I might stand a chance.

Thanks Cheezy! :)

When you say artillery man, what should my rank be? Medic, sniper, anti-tank, engineer, or assault? Thanks for the info, I'll try as sniper asap. :)

Take the artillery gun at the very front of the German lines. I forget what the name is, but it's the big one with about 50 shots that cannot respawn. Like a Defgun but for land bombardment. Engineer is probably the best kit so you can repair the gun and prolong its life. There's a health box right near the gun, so you can use that to heal yourself.

It won't work every time, but it's one of the better strategies.

Get in a plane, and shoot the hell out of the troops and tanks fro ma high altitude. I play on impossible all the time in coop by myself with 63 bots on random maps. It isn't hard you just need to use the planes correctly.

I'm playing the Anzio map right now and I got so close to beating it as the Axis on Impossible. I had the Allies down to 23 tickets, maybe less.

Tobruk is another very difficult one. I had to go around behind the Allied battle lines to the back spawnpoint.

I think I'm gonna give up for a while on trying to win the Monte Cassino map. Thanks for all the help though :)

I miss BF1942, it certainly had the better range of maps compared to BF2. If we could get the squad/communication system of the latter slapped onto the original, I would be delighted :)

just get teamspeak... usually better than the other stuff since you can warn your teams mates after being killed where the enemy is
