And it looks like total garbage. Brave usa soldiers fight agains bad russians and bad arabs. How cool and totally not cliche. Add some more scripted events and there we have it... CoD campaign on Frostbite 2.0.

But I agree with you, the thing is that our standards are now already so low people are actually starting to enjoy this .

What kind of irrational thought is behind this thinking?

"COD4 was successful!? Why don't we just spam more games like it while going overboard without any sense of credibility whatsoever!?"

Fortunately it seems that there are still some people in the business who realize how moronic this is, there hope yet.

People are buying Battlefield 3 for the campaign? What's wrong with these people?

People failed to see the flaws of the Beta that didn't have time to be fixed before launch and that will turn the game very frustrating very fast? What's wrong with these people?

Oh, and games should be able to stand on its own in singleplayer.

I'll hold my judgment from the beta until I get reports and see how the released game is. The beta version/build was already a MONTH old by the time they held the open beta with some of the issues already fixed by then and many more since (at least according to DICE devs and reps on twitter, if they are lying though there will probably be some outrage about it given the general whiny attitude of gaming communities). Although the tact lights are bloody annoying.

Considering the BF series has always been about the multiplayer, expecting BF3 to stand alone upon it's singleplayer is silly and nitpicky.

It looks fine, so what if the SP campaign is linear and scripted? That is neither the focus of the game (which is still multiplayer) and it is much more interesting than loosely tied together multiplayer maps with bots. Nobody is going to be buying BF3 just for the SP campaign, and neither does CoD have any claim to a "CoD campaign" as they are neither the first nor last to do linear scripted FPS SP campaigns.

Sure we've had USA vs Russia a million times before, but if you're setting a game in 2014 and making it a modern setting (like they did with BF2) there aren't a lot of options for countries fighting wars (although it would be nice if they included EU troops defending the European part of it against Russia, although I guess if the Russians were all the way to Paris the EU armies would be mostly defeated and the USA would be sending in reinforcements).

I don't remember anyone from Bioshock.

Metro 2033, some of the characters from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, Mafia 2 (well at least until the ending), Left 4 Dead and those are just off the top of my head.

I don't remember anyone from Bioshock.

No "Would you kindly?". And what about Sander Cohen? Pretty epic character. There weren't many though. I don't remember much from STALKER myself. All I remember from Metro 2033 are various blurry characters in my head saying "Artyom" in funny accents.

Some of the best FPS games had no characters whatsoever. Just you and hordes of monsters to turn to bits of gore. I also like the story intensive games (BioShock) when they have a good setting. I just don't like the middle of the road games (average levels of action with average story and average characters).

Not sure what that has to do with my comment.

The word "game" doesn't mean one-player. And this is even more baseless when the game has been multiplayer from the very start.

... no idea. Bioshock is one of the few SP story games I never finished. The Big Daddies are the only "character" I really remember. Metro 2033's characters weren't the most memorable, since you didn't really get much time to get to know most of them (who were then killed) except for Khan who actually does tell you some stuff about his past. It still goes to show though that A) Game writing and characterization is bad in general (and Just Cause 2 really took the piss out of that, those bad accents were intentional :p) and B) whether or not a game is really memorable is usually at least somewhat subjective.

It has happened before and it will happen again. Just give them your money before hand and see if they won't screw you over.

Even today BC2 still has issues (you win/lose messages wrong? boats under Vietnam?), why would you think they will now start caring about their fanbase? Even the way they released the beta was highly unprofessional!

Forgive me for having higher standards and not simply buying into every crap.

Either their focus isn't singleplayer, and they should abandon its production, making it a multiplayer exclusive game, or they have to allocate resources from the multiplayer part to build a proper singleplayer, in which case one can't argue the game shouldn't be able to stand alone in its singleplayer campaign.

Mafia 2 (well at least until the ending)

I wonder how one can look past the "crime does not pay" part but still say he didn't really enjoy the ending where the main character's best friend dies. It was always pretty obvious the game wouldn't end with every character living happily ever after, what were you expecting?

Never played the Vietnam expansion.

I never said anything about that, no need to get angry.

Well that sounds like a problem you're just going to have to deal with personally because there is no good reason they can't have a short (I don't expect it to be much longer than ~7 hours tbh) SP campaign and their main focus still be on multiplayer. If you are looking for a long SP modern FPS game well you're probably out of luck but the Battlefield series isn't going to deliver on that and nor does it need to.

Spoiler :

Okay first of all, the game ends before it can be proven your friend dies. Sure he probably is about to die, but it is still speculation only. Secondly, the main character loses most of his emotion right at the end (although he didn't always display much caring about things early on either). Thirdly, I never said it was perfect, but that doesn't mean it is any less memorable for me (though I also really like the Mafia setting). Fourthly, I never said ANYTHING about what made the ending bad in my last post, and expecting them to live happily ever after was definitely not it (seeing how in Mafia 1 your guy does get killed eventually, I was surprised he lived that long tbh).

Have you ever heard of day one patch? They don't actually have to put it on the disc.

As for singleplayer: I liked Bad Company's campaigns as they were pretty funny at times. And I believe the BF3 campaign will be pretty cool and the COOP missions should have some cool stuff too.

From what my friends have told me it's different from BC2 but still close enough to be very fun(though the servers could use some work and there seems to be some freezing going on as well while checking menus)

To bad I gotta wait till after work to play

Whats up with different release dates in different parts of the world in this day and age of games being released mostly digitally over the internet anyway?? Almost considering sending my IP on a little "vacation" to the US, but probably not worth it.

You Americans can have your head start, you'll need it. :p

It is close enough to BC2 to be a quick pick up. However I had to change the control scheme for aircraft to the Legacy setting on 360 in order to make heads or tails of it. It was ridiculous awkward. Servers need some work, couldn't get COOP to work at all and joining a game with a squad of friends is impossible. You have to invite them from within the game, as the squad system is broken.
