Battleships come too late?

They will never ever add another unit into the base game not tied to any further expansion or DLC. Just saying. Not a snowballs chance in hell.

I still say thay are fine. They are for shelling cities and units on the shore. And due to indirect fire they are fine for that including the endgame. I am using Battleships in combination with sumarines more now and basically ignore Destroyers.

I agree something is need to bridge frigates and battleships. Call it whatever, cruiser, battlecruiser, dreadnought (my fav) or even pre-dreadnought (what all battleships prior to HMS Dreadnought were reclassified).

Also something needs to be done with aircraft carries. I rarely use them, only when I need a temp base for my bombers until I capture a city then rebase them. The problem is they are very expensive to build (if you include all the aircraft as well). My idea (no idea if it is original) is when you build an aircraft carrier it should have a squadron already included (call it a strike force, and it can only be based on the carrier). These aircraft then should have a large bonus against ships only, making carriers the power of the sea that they are in the real world.

How about just an air unit called 'carrier wing' which will represent fighters, dive bombers and torpedo bombers (later upgraded to modern carrier wing multi-role jets) and can operate on carriers or be land based. Average on air to air and air to ground, a bonus vs sea units.

They added buildings in a patch, so I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

I will have to side with those who say it is fine as it is. If you strategy for winning involves battleships beeline it . . . . I recently conquered 3 civs with frigates and waited 10-15 turns until I teched to battleships to take out the last two. (Small archipelago map). Timing worked out fine.

hmm...

The problem seems to be a tech choice one.

If you're already using GW Infantry, why do you go far away to Combustion before grabbing that tech not far from it (I also read air units in there, so that means the pre-reqs for Electronics were already completed)?

So it's not actually a game issue then.

Personally, I find Destroyers too far away from Privateers... but then I love to upgrade my Frigates to Battleships since they are the best naval unit in the game for a very long time (aside from that random sub which will kill it fast).
