bed_03 - RaR, Demigod, random civ

Due to some RL issues i don't have much time today.
I'd like to concentrate on my turnset, so if it is okay with the rest of the team i will play it tomorrow.
Otherwise feel free to skip me.

Pre-turn: is it a good idea to use gold for cash rush...
I spent our gold cash-rushing various building within our empire.

IBT. Celts came asking to renew deal. We gave them coffee and wool and they can't pay

so much any longer... They only willing to pay 7gpt+WM for coffee.
Iro's kill our kensai, but don't attack SoD.
Bizen dragoon->kensai; tokyo univ->kensai; fukushima musket->kensai;satsuma

kensai->kensai;larry lib->temple and have to hire taxman to avoid riots; kagoshima

phil.school->lib; WBRomeo forge->temple; hilltown port->academy; citadel

phil.school->academy' shimonoseki major port->temple

T1. 1305AD. Killed two muskets, lost one kensai. Moved troops to attack Grand river.
Angkor Wat is located in a city called Lhasa... Very bad location - inner city and

will take a great deal to get there.

IBT. Sioux came asking to extend MA against Iro and some gpts for bunch of luxuries we

provided.. They don't have much money so deal is down from 100+gpt to 46GPT.
Celts knocked as well.. they think that gold we provided for Tropical fruit is not

enough anymore, so i had to add wool to extend deal for another 20 turns.
Iro's attacked with bunch of knights. We killed 2 knights; lost 2 kensai and a

musketman.
Satsuma kensai->kensai; Larry riots anyways. Parakas court->academy
;Yokohama kensai->kensai.
Celts are building G.Bible.

T2. 1310 AD Razed Grand River with no casualties.

IBT. Another yet deal expired with celts... I renewed and again with less money they

pay us.
Strange.. Iro's are retreating away from our stack of troops.
cuzco temple->basilica; bizen kensai->kensai; fukushima kensai-kensai; bob->library;

New osaka kensai->kensai
Iro's are building G.Bible.

T3. 1315AD... Moved troops further.. I wonder if i can take another city next turn...
Unless Iro's decide to attack us first.

IBT: Oh, no.. Iros signed peace with Sioux. And Siox are knocking again.
Another deal expired and again they are not willing to pay as much as they used to..
I renew deal and throw MA against IRos again. Sioux declare on Iro.
I can't believe it - our advisor comes and tells me they signed peace again...
Something is wrong with RaR i presume. ... oh no we lost furs and cotton.. Stupid

Sioux. Citadel riots.

T4. 1320AD. Going to Sioux and asking for MA against Iro+furs+cotton+92GPT for all the

extra resources/luxes we had. Sioux declare on iro.
I forgot to include iron into the deal.. Sell iron to Sioux for 66gpt
Will be attacking Iro city next turn.

IBT. Nationalism comes.. I sell it to Sioux for Federalism and 113GPT. Brenus has no

money. Brennus is bancrupt and isn't at war with Iro's give him 220gold and sing MA
against IRo's.
Inca will talk and idecide to make peace with him... No reason to fight him at the

moment... Or am i wrong???
I get the message we can build general staff school and a monument.
Edo lib->temple. Bizen kensai->kensai; fukushima kensai->kensai. Satsuma huge

boat->kensai; Junior windmill->basilica

T5. 1325AD Razed Oil Springs - lost 2 kensai.

IBT. Iro's landed cavalry next to hilltown. Larry temple->basilica this city has

happiness issues. Huari built one of those military ships.. I felt like escorting our

cargo ships dues to large Iro fleet i can see.

T6. 1330AD. Our forces are quite beat up.. More coming on ships though.. I've loaded

wounded troops on huge boats to heal. Iro's are quickly replace razed cities with new

ones.
IBT. Nothing
T7. 1335AD. Well.. i see a large stack of dozen Cuirassiers and some camels, knights

and elephants are coming my way.. i've loaded every unit but one kensai (no space left

sorry) on boats... i need to heal them before iro's attack... We are not in the best

shape
t8. 1340AD. Moving our fleet to the southern tip of Iro land. Will raze a city on my

way and keep going to the Angkor Wat town

T9. 1345. Razed another iro town and set sail further along the Iro coast.

T10. 1350AD Landed troops to raze another Iro's city next turn.

Iro's have 44995 Culture and although i tried to build cheap culture all around it won't catch with them. War wasn't as effective as it should... I think i outsmarted myself in what i was trying to do.. From what i read here in RaR AIs aren't afraid attacking armies, so i did not dare to capture or establish new cities in Iro's land.
Steam power in 2 turns and Smiths in 3. Iro's fleet showed up near Junior.. Sending few kensais that way.
I hope next player will do the job better than i did.

Something is wrong with RaR i presume. ...
This is NOT RaR. I saw the same nonsense in a standard game.

I got it. I will do my best to lay some smack down. The good news from the screenie that I can see is that their town size is down. That means they are poprushing or drafting like nuts.
Based on Mapstat, I have done some calculations.
At the current Rate, the Iro will win in 13 turns. The sioux will hit 25k in 11 turns. We will need 21 turns to hit 25k. The Iro are gaining culture on the sioux and will win in NEVER by 50k. (at the current rates at the end of D-mans turns)
We need to keep hammering Iro culture and make sure sioux culture doesn't decrease. We would need 70 turns to prevent the civwide win.
Now remember, these are preliminary numbers and are subject to change. Hopefully the iro numbers tend down.

based on my mapstat Sioux and us make ~235cpt, while Iro make 403cpt (I found that mapstat is a little inaccurate here during my turns).
so, Sioux make more than 50% of Iro and since they have almost exactly 50% overall of Iro culture, this is good news.

When I started my turns, Iro made 445cpt, they are down 10% already. keep pounding them and we are safe.

Iro don't attack our SoD, so it is safe to assume we could approach Lhasa and raze 2 towns on the way. Keep monitoring the culture status and we should be safe.

I think i razed 4 or 5 Iro's cities..
problem is - most of our troops are heavily wounded inside ships..
how long does it take for unit or army to fully heal while on board of ship??
Looks like it does take a lot of time.

how long does it take for unit or army to fully heal while on board of ship??
Looks like it does take a lot of time.
if there is 1 army that is close to fully healed, we could land the armies and let them heal there, slow but better than on a ship.

Perhaps this would be a good time to reserach Medicine and build three hospitals so we can build battlefield med?

Glad you made peace with Inca, as they were causing the WW, although the Iros will probably buy them in again soon. I see Absolute Monarchy in our near future, so this is less of a problem. Are the Iros fundie yet?

The reason Celts and Sioux were offering us less is I had thrown in tech on prior deals to help them get caught up. They've probably run up their unit upkeep tab now, and thus have a less robust economy. It is important, however, to send them all the luxes we can, whether they can pay or not, not help them manage their happiness.

>how long does it take for unit or army to fully heal while on board of ship??

If the ship is behind Iro lines, it could take a mighty long time...Might be better to set up a healing chain.

I got my turns played. A full log, some screenies and a save will be forthcoming over the lunch hour.
In the good news catergory. The Iros are gassed, I killed over 100 Iro units (didn't really count, but I have a confidence of 95% that it was over 100 kills). These turns were like :xmas: to me. The Iro's also now make less culture per turn then we do.
The Bad news: I lost 2 armies. :ack: I only razed 2 towns and captured 1. (And before anyone asks it currently has zero flip chance. Many brave Iro workers shed their blood. :satan: ) Lhasa still stands, and I lost about a quarter of the troops I had been given (~15-20).
The Mediocre: I upgraded a lot of our troops. We built the National Monument, so WW is less of a factor. (rushed) I built a lot of garbage culture. I am handbuilding the Military Academy (kyoto) and the Naval Academy (satsuma). I also rushed the General staff School.

The Iro's now definitely cannot win by 50k unless the double the next guy rule was removed. I am starting some district courthouses, so that we can build the supreme court when we get a chance.

Wow... Quite warmongering you've had :goodjob:
Good to hear we have postponed or defeat and even have chances to win now. :)

IHT: Sink Iro frigate.
IBT: See Iro fast troops head north.
Turn 1: Capture Oka, it has a garrison. Instaheal. Sacrafice a worker there. Upgrade all our muskets in the attack force to line infantry.
IBT: NO threats
Turn 2: Trade Sioux Steam power for 450 gold and 180 gpt. Lose 6 or 7 troops, kill 10-12 muskets and line infantry and a stack of cannons, and raze Tynderaga. Upgrade or disband all our champions.
IBT: Lost the elite kensai that razed tyd. The fast stack of Iro units shows up.
Turn 3: the f3 bug hit while I was killing the Iro fast stack. Random seed is not preserved. NO matter. Kill the fast stack, a privateer and some loose change. Our leader rushes the General staff sschool in Oka.
IBT: Bodo Luane sinks carrack, firgate, before succombing to more carracks. Lose 2 kensai I unloaded out of 7 from the 2 bodo luans that went down.
Turn 4: Raze Cuanawuaga, no losses. The remaining kensai from that offload kill some cuirassers, before being covered by an army. Either these 3 city raze/captures really hurt, or the Iro's mobolized. Either way, we now make more culture than they do.
IBT: Lose Bizen because I forgot about a landing. Nuts.
Turn 5: Kill horse archer at Bizen. Kill a ton more fast units around Oka, most of these are elephants and knights 2 movers as opposed to his 3 movers I whacked earlier. The slicing and dicing continues.
IBT: Lose 2 line infantry to more cuirassers.
Turn 6: Recapture Bizen. Kill a ton more stuff around oka. Imperial guard kills something gets great leader. Leader to rush Mt. Rushmore in Oka. Also caputred 60 culture on hoof to take to Oka.
IBT: Lose full strength Kensai Army to Cuirassier. SHould have won but Cest la Vie.
Turn 7: Another sacrafice in Oka gives us a second expansion. More killing around Oka.
IBT: Lose 2 Kentai.
Turn 8: I know I sound like a broken record, but kill another ~15 units around Oka.
IBT: Lose fortified colonial Marine army to cuirassier. I was fortified in Oka, I do not understand. 9 hps at 4 with a city bonus plus 25% for the General staff school, versus 6 attack 6 hp.
Turn 9: Industrailization comes in. Get constiutuionalism and a lot of gold from our buddies. Kill antoher 12 units around Oka. Rush a line infantry there.
IBT: We finally kill something on D, when our colonial Marine army kills a hussar. We are the Tech leaders.
Turn 10: Finally a turnset where there are limited attacks towards Oka.

>Lose full strength Kensai Army to Cuirassier.

Apparently, they only attack our armies in cities...

>Good to hear we have postponed or defeat and even have chances to win now.

As if the Emperor of Heaven could ever be defeated! Blasphemy, I say! :)

Got it, will give 'er a whirl tonight...

Pre-flight: Lots to get caught up on – 4 turns left on alliances, so we can get peace soon if needed. 2 turns oeft on Inca peace, so we can remove that thorn, as well. Wow, just missed the old capital Iron Works – if we’d only stuck to my original dotmap, the northern succesor to Satsuma could have built one. There is an open spot in the south that could build one, may found a city there. Switch Kyoto to factory in 6. With Caol Plant and Prison, he’ll be able to crank out that Mil Academy in no time.

Why are our workers mining the tundra? I see the forests around Sapporo and Bob are still unchopped, and for the third straight time, I receive a game where the entire northern kingdom is one unhappy face away from WLTK. Larry, with the Summer Palace, needs mines. Throughout the north and south, cities have outgrown WLTK – I’m hoping this is due to an uptick in WW.

Paramonga will fall in the IBT, and nothing I can do, so gift it to Inca to keep away from Iros. I would like to get the Iro capital pillaged, but may need to take a peace breather here to protect our beachead and get factories built.

Elite Kensai kills musket north of Oka. No Leader.
Repeat.
Vet Kensai kills musket, no promotion.
Elite 7/8 Kensai kills pike, generating a leader!

Decisions, decisions. I form an army that will be tasked with cutting off the Iro capital.

IBT: We lose a covering transport, and one defending musket in Oka, killing one cuir and retreating another.

1405: some happy buildings complete. I switched Univ in 5 to lab in one in Nara so we could build some more ships.

Elite Kensai slices and dices covering Arqubusier. Vet Kensai promotes, killing injured Cuir. Reg Line Infantry promotes, killing injured Hussar. Elite Kensai army heads north toward capital, pillaging Iro approach roads on way. Rush shipyard in Oka to upgrade approaching transports. Check the Mil Advisor, and yes, indeed, Hiawatha is now a Fundamentalist.

IBT: True enough, Hiawatha ignores pillaging army headed toward capital, sending a couple Hussars to be slaughtered near Oka.

1410: We indeed gain more culture than Iros. Would like to slaughter Lhasa before making peace. We’ll see. The road to the capital unfortunately goes through desert – oh for an adventurer army! Lhasa razing task force heads out from Oka. Eta four turns.

IBT: 4 Hussars approach, decide to peel off a couple Kensai to guard Oka.

1415: Kill approaching Hussars – one remains in range of Oka. Rush granary in Oka, need to get it to city size.

IBT: Iros send units scurrying north.

1420: Two of nine tiles surrounding Iro capital pillaged! Troops approaching Lhasa. 3-turn Clipper ship chain set up, if we need it.

IBT: Reup lux deals for a lot more gold, do not renew alliances.

1425: Kyoto: Factory->Coal Plant (in 5), most cities in WLTK now.

IBT: Crazy Horse had actually taken a northern city, but Hiawatha recovered it nd I see units heading past the capital toward the south.
1430: Attack on Lhasa:

We lose 2 elite Kensai (I saved an army for cover) in defeating 2 elite line infantry, 4 vets, and a hussar. Angkor Wat is no more. :D Current Iro culture: 48945, Our culture: 24679

IBT: Sioux and Celts make happy with Hiawatha.

1435: Iro culture goes up 360, ours 290. Satsuma: Factory->Coal Plant (in 4, heavily starving) Our army now sits on the last road connecting Hiawatha’s capital to it’s empire.

IBT: Floods of Iro Hussars head toward Oka.

1440: Iros may have difficulty producing any more Hussars without horses! Wholescale slaughter around Oka, as last turn I had ship chained 6 fresh Kensai in. Producing... Leader Fujiwara made his way to Nara, where next turn he will rush the Naval Academy (Nara is making a market this turn – markets are big happiness help when running 20% lux).

At his point, we have a decision to make, so I'll leave the game to the next player. I would like to make peace with the Iro and revolt to Fed Republic and run away with this one. We have more cities, and with rails coming soon, the human development advantage. Getting rid of the (admittedly low level) war weariness will allow us to grow our outer cities bigger and increase our income. Several core cities with happiness issues now have markets, which help a great deal on happiness, and if we could turn lux down a notch, we could make a decent amount of cash.

I’m also concerned with the Iros signing in the Celts and Sioux against us. If we continue the war, we should reup the alliances, but I don’t see a great deal of upside until we get better defensive units. The ship chain is set up for an all out invasion, but our short-term war aims have already been accomplished, as the Iro capital is cut off, Lhasa has been razed, and Hiawatha is in a government that has slowed is tech pace to a screeching halt. Current culture totals: Us=25266. Iro=49525.

Pics to follow.

BTW, you've never had the ultimate Civ fun until you've flown an Ka50-Hokum army. The unit has move 8 and attack 42, so the armies have move 9, blitz and effective attack of something around 70! If we get our empire developed, we could fly through tech to Combined Arms and revisit Hiawatha with some serious firepower...

got it,

agree with you, Bez to go for peace and develop more. Since this is first RaR for many of us, it would be fun to go to real monster units. Maybe can eliminate Inca in between.

Btw, chain shipping is deemed an exploit in SG's as far as I know. What does the rest say?
