just wonder why are we so scared of Iro? I made that deal since we made nice with them and I guess we won't attack them soonish (judging from Bez's comments who does not want to steamroll them)
Of course, we can sign trade embargos, but that will overall just decrease the speed of the game. If we want a SS win, we should not get bogged down with MM in the late game for too long, this can get pretty boring.

I personally would not mind a faster tech speed as long as we are on top of that.

I wasn't picking at you TheRat ;) .
It is personal between me and Iro's the way they scared me to death my previous turn set.... Now i want their blood. :)

EDIT: Oh, and on constant argument for and against war...
Can i call you Bezhukov - Colin Powell, and you Romeo - Donald Rumsfeld

I prefer Patrick Henry. My political views lie far more with the early federalists, (Alexander Hamilton), or middle progressives, (William Jennings Bryan (See avatar)), then anything in the past 70 years.
If we want to be really uncouth, you could call me Harrison, but I prefer not offend any Native Americans.
Bez, by his profession, is the only one I try and annoy, and that is all in good fun. He is pretty versed at needleing me back.

IHT: No changes
Turn 1: Satsuma is going to build the Central Bank after it builds a hospital. We need to get all our production boosters up now.
Turn 2: Upgrade some workers. It is a habit, plus I like the 2 move.
Turn 3: More stuff, trying to get culture and WLTKD.
Turn 4: We get the ToE, I take coporation and refrig. Trade ToE to Sioux for a ton of gpt, steel and gold. We lose luxes with the Iro. Short rush Satsumas hospital. Upgrade more stuff. Research to City planning. We are way over unit support costs, stop all military builds and start disbanding old or regular troops.
Turn 5: IRos declare on the Celts.
Turn 6: Celts build Clauswitz, I start Universal Sufferage as an Eiffel prebuild.
Turn 7: Sell modern leagal system for over 400 gpt total. But not to the Iro's.
Turn 8: Not much
Turn 9: Pollution
Turn 10: Get city planning, go back to pick up perspective. WE WANT THE SISTENE CHAPEL!!
Swap Tokyo over to the Eiffel Tower, Then have it build a prison, then the sistene chapel. Have Satsuma build the small wonders, and a prison. Supreme court should come along shortly. No screenie as no real change.
Work on the Railnet, and finish improving our core. We get 349 cpt, and the Iro get 409.

We are catching up with Iro's in culture per-turn, but they still are running away with each turn.
We need one more war and raze few of their biggest cities and at the same time level with them in amount of cpt we produce.
I guess we can wait and make the war happen during next Romeo's turnset. :)
When are we going to get better units than Kensai's?
and also what is the best defensive unit of our age? Line infantry we have now doesn't look so good.

We get better Units at cavalry, which is 2 techs beyond electricity. They are 8/3/3 units. We get better defenders with Riflemen, defense 5, 2 techs away, and Machine Gunners, defense 8, 4 techs away. I will pull a Bez here and advocate infra and wonder builds for ~30 turns. We want Sistene and Eiffel Tower in the next 10 turns as well as the Central bank.
We really have to focus on getting all the production boosts in our 2 good cities, Kyoto and Satsuma.
I had time to play this morning after all, I don't think anyone will be too mad that I moved the game along. Builder turns go fast.

Won't be able to look at the game until tonight.
But I am curious to know what Sistine and Eifel will provide us with?

Eiffel Tower is 2 happy faces in the town that builds it, and FREE MONUMENTS. Sistene just doubles the effect of cathedrals. Neither one expires, and with as many cathedrals as we have, we will benefit greatly. It will help keep us in perpetual WLTKD.

Ok. so how is it possible that researching of electricity will kill all monuments
(according to Bez.) But then building Eifel and researching electricity later won't kill them?????
This does not sound very clear to me.

Researching electricity will kill all the monuments provided by the Pyramids. The Eiffel tower gives out new monuments that never go away. That is why I wanted the Eiffel tower before electricity.

:thanx: Now it's clear.

Dman,

Hiawatha can only win on culture by doubling our culture. We currently have more than half of what he does, so we just have to maintain a rate greater than half his, not greater than his, to continue to improve our situation. Unless he starts generating more than double our culture, there is no pressing concern.

Barring unforeseen catastrophe or AI brilliance, there is basically no way for him to do so at this point, so the culture loss is no longer much of a risk.

BTW, if I can live a life half as honorable as Colin Powell's, I will be twice blessed. But my sympathies lie closer to Rumsfeld's (and Patrick Henry's, for that matter) if truth be told.

;)

This should not be taken to infer that I have any fondness for crosses of gold, however...

:mischief:

Who's up?

You say our dear Celtic friends are under attack? We have more troops than our economy can support? Our fine Japanese citizens are much too valuable to be put to work on such menial tasks as clearing marshland? This can only mean one thing - WAR!

Got it.

Crosses got to be made of something.
I didn't know you followed American Statesmen either. Or did you just take advantage of this handy thing known as the internet?
Good luck with whatever you choose, we have enough troops over in and by Oka to make sure that the Iro have a really bad 10 turns.

We get better Units at cavalry, which is 2 techs beyond electricity. They are 8/3/3 units. We get better defenders with Riflemen, defense 5, 2 techs away
finally someone stated a reason why I went for that tech called electricity. well I saw cavs and rifles and thought they ain't that bad.
that's for CIV, not in real life though since you guys here are so much into realpolitik

Plenty of :hammer: goin' on, but it will be to the next player to do much razing. We did land a couple wonder-rushers. :) Hiawatha should be reasonably gassed now. On to the report.

Pre-flight: The die has been cast – better to lose Oka than allow our blades to grow dull and our valiant warriors soft. Preparations for war ordered forthwith. Interesting – our Celtic colleagues have already taken possession of Paramunga Isle off our coast. I can’t tell you how much it touches my heart to see so many of our people happy – what a fine Emperor Romeo has turned out to be! Some builds are adjusted, however, as my advisors tell me that Coal Plants do wonders for production, providing the resources for the tree huggers to build their beloved parks more efficiently. Even we engineers do not much care for pollution. Only once our precious environment is taken care of can we afford to care about crime. Your prisons will be built in due time – must keep our priorities in order!

New Osaka will soon be newer still, as visions of an Iron Works dance in his head.

Our people take to the seas on a fishing expedition, and fishery construction is ordered throughout the land. Boy are they pricey.

I’m flabbergasted that we got exactly NO super food resources from Refrig. Must all be waiting for Genetics.

IBT: The Iroquois have wrested Paramunga from its rightful owners, the Celts. This travesty cries out for retribution.

1605: We meet with Hiawatha’s respresentatives and calmly explain that due to an unexplained malady, our laborers are only able to complete their tasks at the rate of mere peasants, and thus our labor supply needs a supplement of, oh, 100 Iroquois workers. Hiawatha foolishly refuses our quite reasonable request, so…

The Celts pay us 30gpt for an alliance against the hated Iroquois, the Sioux toss in 300 gpt for City Planning, and they join the crusade. The Celts also offer 200 odd gpt for the ability to plant forests, and our income goes over 1500 gpt. We add 8 workers to our force in the first strike of the war, autorazing a nearby Iro city.

IBT: Iro landing on Tintagel isle!

1610: We learn Perspective, set research to Screw Propeller in 6 to rid the seas of the Iro vermin. Our Admirals of the Fleet let fire on the Tintagel invaders. The two Kensai defenders of Tintagel take out two of three invaders. Hussars gather to Oka like bees to honey. Ah, but the bear is there to greet them!

IBT: More Iros line up to die.

1615: Tintagel stands! More slaughter around Oka. A great leader, Patrick Henry, emerges from the battles.

1620: More bloodshed, Patrick makes his way back to Satsuma.

1625: No risk of dull swords, that’s for sure.

1630: Sistine Chapel completes in Satsuma (Kyoto is working on Eifel), Mil Academy is rushed.

1635: Screw Propeller comes in (not the best choice, in retrospect, Refining in 6) Raze Iro town crowding Oka. Seen enough swordplay, animate battles is off. :) Finally lose our first unit attacking a Line Infantry. :( To celebrate the occasion, we get another leader. :D Hiawatha’s gotta be about gassed by now.

IBT: Sioux gets the Taj

1640: More of the same, not gassed yet.

IBT: The Celts betray us and make peace with Hiawatha!

1645: Great, pollution strikes Satsuma as it completes it’s Park. Central Bank rushed. Y’know, don’t think Bed could have started a more annoying variant. RandR extended with broken workers. Everything takes twice as long. :crazyeye:

Iros finally land some troops on the homeland.

1650: Eiffel finally completes. We get Electricity from Brennus, and Replaceable Parts from Crazy Horse. We can finally fight a semblance of a real war now, with Rifles. Time to raze some Iro cities and get some slaves.

Iro invasion rebuffed. Probably need one more army, or five or six Rifles, to go on a city razing spree in south Hiawathaville. Didn’t feel like risking our Beachhead to do much more than leaderfish. 10 turns left on alliance with Sioux.

IMPORTANT: We have one District Court already, two more will finish in 5 turns. When Kyoto finishes its Park, have it prebuild Supreme Court. Once Supreme is finished, you can sell District Courts, as they are pricey on the upkeep.

Whenever a city finishes a Coal Plant, have it immediately build a Park (eliminates all building pollution but one), we can’t afford to spare workers to clean up pollution. Only build Sewers where absolutely necessary, as pop is the biggest source of pollution. Nara has only plains, so clean-up not so bad there.

Been focusing workers on railing plains and grass to enhance food, along with fisheries, this allows a lot more mountains and hills to be worked. Play around with the mix in these cities to get a big boost in production.

Refining reveals Oil, which is required for Pentagon. Don't think I need to tell you how important that is. Can be rushed in Oka. I don't mind an extended war with Hiawatha if we can use it to get the workforce we need to develop our lands.

Total of two Kensai lost - two cities razed, an estimated 90 Hussars and 10 Line Infantry sliced and diced.

guess that gets me up again. I like the speed in this SG, makes it so much more fun to play.

and one comment. halfway through this game, it seemed so dull I wanted to give up on RaR already, but you guys were right. It turns out to fun in the latter stages. thanks to the great dicussions as well. got me more appetite for RaR as well.

thanks for all the instructions, so less :smoke: moves from rat this time. and yum, warmongering time

>you guys here are so much into realpolitik

Nope, that's what Rumsfeld, Patrick Henry, et. al. don't have much stomach for, hence my support. ;) Surrealpolitik for me!

Who's up now? ThREat? Ready to whup some Hiawatha butt? The Rifle's extra hp goes a long way, try 'em out!

Crystal Palace is the next big research goal.
