bed_09 - Random RaR Deity

Guys, something weird is going on for me. I can load the 150 BC turn fine. If I try to load the 50AD turn I crash and burn with the following message:
LAK-716.jpg

Can the other people load the game? I am trying to figure out if the problem is a bad install, or incomplete stuff from Doc.

No problems here.
OUCH - now I need to figure out what I screwed up. :(

I hope I don't have to reinstall all the RaR stuff.

LK, don't forget to shuffle the pediaicons file. this game here is 1.04 and lk97 is 1.03. need to reassign the txt file every time you swap bewteen those games

Go to the Firaxis Longship folder (in your \\Conquests\Conquests\Middle Ages\Art\Units directory), and copy all files in that folder into the new RAR Longboat folder.

I got it fixed. There was an error in Doc's instructions, or the download file.
I needed to delete the longboat.ini and rename the longship.ini to longboat.ini. The bad file contains the early line of DEFAULT=Longship_default.flc.

This also fixed the 1.03 vs. 1.04 problems as LK97 and Bed9 now both load with the same pediacons.txt file.

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\RAR\Art\Units\Longship.

The final .ini file should have a date of May 13,2003.

thnaks, mine has. I have no issue opening the file, but still need to swap the files, never mind.

by the way looking at the file, I wonder that we are scientifically for far behind the other continent. we better get the 2nd GL and try and catch up in between

Loading up the game to see if it worked prompted me to play earlier than planned.

70 AD (1) - We were beaten to Printing Press.

110 AD (3) - As we are falling behind in techs again, take a bit of a risk and trade our only Camels, 83g, 10gpt and WM to Tibet for Political Philosophy. Political Philo and 1gpt gets Gunpowder from Polynesia. Political Philo to America for Architecture and 11g. Then Political Philosophy and Gunpowder to the Iroquois for gold and Printing Press.

190 AD (7) - Meet Persia. They are way way behind.

210 AD (8) - Notice Ethiopia has coffee and wine to trade. Give 'em Map Making for both luxes, and the slider goes to 0%.

We are about ready to go after America, I think. I suggest using the production to put Guild Halls in while we have the gold available with which to build them. After that, we should be able to manage one turn Keshiks in a few places, I think. In our higher powered cities, mainly Ta-Tu, we can try to grab some wonders I guess to put the shields to use. Building Keshiks will definitely be wasteful, though.

Perspective is due in 2, hopefully as a monopoly. I don't know how much value we'll be able to get out of it, but hopefully we'll get something. We probably ought to wait until we can trade Perspective around before declaring on America. They lack Matchlock but have Physics, so we can probably get something out of that. That also give us a few more Keshiks before getting the war started, which probably isn't a bad thing.

got it, we still have those lux and rion deals with Iroquois, will wait until they expire in 2 before declaring on America. I am not too sure about the trade route and don't want to ruin our rep

save

Pre-Turn
reduse science a notch, still get perspective in 2

IT Babs finish Copernicus
1st deal with Iro expires, leave it for now.

1. 260AD
up lux to 10%

IT we get perspective

2.270AD
at least it's a monopoly
perspective to Babs for matchlock and 320g
we can't quite get Theory of warfare or absolutism
Metallurgy from tibet for perspective and 380g
Metallurgy to Ethiopia for physics
we could get absolutism for iron from Iro, but the trade route....
sell perspecitve to Polynesia for 8gpt and 18g
go for music theory next since nobody has it
time to attack America

1st keshik dies at New York, 2nd redlines then
bed9270.jpg

lose another Keshik and New York is ours (gain 1 slave), will keep American towns since
we have double their culture, advance troups and catch 2 more workers
with 4 keshiks we actually fail to take St. Louis

IT lose a keshik on counter

3. 280AD
take St. Louis
lose a keshik, but we take Philadelphia defeating 3 units

IT we lose another keshik and more American horses show up

4 .290AD
trying to play defensive for a turn until reinforcements arrive

IT 3 horses show up at Philadelphia

5. 300AD
get 1 slave from them plus another elite promotion

6. 310AD
American would talk now, try and get few more towns before signing peace
set up attack on Buffalo

IT we lose another unit on counter, America is stronger that I thought
we get music theory

7. 320AD
Music theory is monopoly
give MT for Babs for Theory of Warfare and 30g
MT to Tibet for 450g
MT and Theory of warfare plus 640g to Iroqouis for absolutism
Absolutism to Ethiopia for Magnetism and 12g
sell Polynesia MT 13got and 20g
set research to Humanism in 5
set Atalanta to Summer palace
move units to Buffalo, it's ours next turn

IT lose a keshik after defeating a knight

8. 330AD
we take Buffalo, once we get SF, we could trade with Iro safely in future, hope to get that town next turn

IT American seem desperate since they attack keshik with pike, but they win :(

9.340AD
we are 3 turns from Humanism, but the AI's have it already
WW sets in
capture SF, with that town taken, sea route seems safe
dial Iros and iron has a real high value for them
we get olive oil, Newton synthesis, mercantilism, Humanism and naval cannon straight for it :D
set Tatu to encyclopedia in 12
set research to free artistry
trade Humanism and mercantilism with Polynesia for juris prudence
set up attack on Chicago

IT Iro start encylopedia. we might not get it, gassed America loses a horse against keshik on mountain

10.350AD
TaTu grows and build shortens by 1 turn (now in 10), but we also need to increase lux to 20%
attack and take Chicago, sacrifice a slave for border expansion to get us tea
reduce lux back to 10%, move units to attack Miami next turn

Americans just lost a town to Polynesia in the west, they are gassed, I suggest to try and take as much as we can
Iro turns into the culture monster, we better get more towns now to be able to fight them later

the former American land

Looks great. I am glad perspective worked out. I wasn't sure it would have a whole lot of value. I am curious what you built in Ta-Tu, as in GA and with Guild Hall it had a fair amount of production.

I built a guild hall for sure, it is high on shields but encyclopedia is expensive, lucky Iro build theirs in a lousy town

Okay, I was just wondering if anything else had been built there. It would be nice to get the science boosters in there as it is our best city in terms of commerce, and if the game lasts long enough for tourism to be a factor, it could beat out Karakorum.

I forgot exactly what I built there, but I did build a lot of science and production boosters throughout the empire, we ned to use GA for that. I used only 3 towns to build mil units.

We should build up ~25 keshiks by the end of the GA, then we can also take out polynesia rather quickly. We would want the iro to grow some more, then raze their cities for slaves.
I really like the manors, feudal monarchy isn't that bad now. Remember that hospitals are now much better as well.

got it.
will play sometime today

I think we should build a bazaar and then prebuild Smiths in Karakoum. I think that our final government will be federal republic with Smiths. Smiths was worth ~500-700 gpt to us last game, and I expect similar savings this game. (We probably will not build that many economic structures till we own our continent, but this is about as good as I can get at preplanning).

What is better about hospitals?

Well that is my #1 wonder in RaR. With all the extra buildings available it is really worth it. It even justifies things like toll house that only boast income.
