bed_09 - Random RaR Deity

IIRC Hospitals boost shields 25%, Science 50%, and 2 for 1 growth. The cahnges are listed in the changelog text in the RaR 1.04 patch.

pre-turn: built embassy with Iro's for 52 gold. Sold one of the older techs to ephiopia for WM+150Gold. Looks like Salamanca has 7 defenders, building library and has a clown hired. Iro's have access to 7 different luxes.
It produces lousy 18gpt but everything is much cheaper for AIs on diety level. Spent another 55 gold to investigate Kahnawake - that's the town building encyclopedie... No issues there... It makes 5GPT and will be building the wonder for another 144 turns. :mischief:
Ethiopia is quite backward and we can sell them techs when they have cash.

IBT. Tibet completed Newton's. Other AIs cascaded to Bach's.

T1. 360AD. Failed to take Miami, but no units are lost.

IBT. Message: Iro's are building Encyclopedie - must have cascaded to another city.

T2. 370AD. It sure did cascaded, but won't be ready for another 36 turns. Can't capture Miami. Don't have enough troops so will wait.

IBT. American horse rider (not sure what's name for the unit) kills our keshik. Resistance in Washington ended.

T3. 380AD. Rushed ashugaru pike in Washington. Finally captured Miami. Washington is the next target.

T4. 390AD. Sold Naval Cannon and Newtonian Synth. to Ethiopia for Silks +529gold. Expect some WLTKD next turn.

T5. 400AD. Very unfortunate RNG and i fail to take Washington with stack of redlined Keshiks just outside of city.
Free Artistry comes but everyone who can pay money has it already except Polynesia... And here i made a mistake i am so pissed of at myself... :wallbash: While checking how much they'd pay i accidentaly hit okay button. Second later i realised that locked us into another 20 turns of trade deal and america will be gone much sooner than that... I am really really sorry for this major blinder.... Switch research to economics. (see next turn log on science)

T6. 410AD. Captured Washington with Sphinx and get us 5 slaves and 3 workers. I've decided to turn off research since Encyclopedia will be built in 4 turns... We will probably be better off collecting some cash meanwhile

T7. 420AD. Captured Seattle. Started East Indian Company in Hovd. Feel free to change that wonder to something else.
America is down to 2 cities but our offensive stalled. Have to heal out troops.

IBT. Iro's are building Smith's. We lost cofee and wine

T8. 430AD. Bought Coffee and wine back from Ethiopia for Free artistry and Tropical Fruit.

T9. 440AD. Sieging Boston. It is on top of the hill... Very bad, very bad luck... Large stack of Keshik's was halved and those survivors are redlined. i fail to take city yet again with only one redlined defender left inside.

IBT. America and Polynesia signed a peace treaty.

T10. 450AD Encyclopedia completed in Ta-tu switched to bazaar for now. Captured Boston with Sun-Tzu. America is down to one town.
Lost many Keshiks attacking large american cities. Boston siege was especially bloody one.
Science is on 0%. Karakorum is building Shakespear's as pre-build for Smith's. Starting next turn we should level in technology with leaders - Babylon and Tibet. Can't forgive myself on making that deal with Polynesia.
WW also takes toll. During my turns i had to increase entertainment spending twice. Last time during the last turn and it is now at 30%.

Please don't tell me we wasted research time on the useless tech that the AI goes for quickly.

Actually we did.
The Rat started researching it during his turns and i did not want to lose any beakers.
Since i know little about RaR i thought it was a grand master plan to go after optional (???) Free Artistry for further trading.

EDIT: So i guess it was a double setback.

well, I set research to free artistry on turn 9 during my set. At that moment it was the only tech that none of the AI's had researched. Of course, the moment others learned it, the monopoly status was gone and thus, the value of it.
we can't always be lucky with our research. now it's time to build up research capabilities and honestly, our gov type we are in, does not really suit that.

for future assaults, we need some arty support. I saw during my turns already that attacking with keshiks isn't that simple, but due to their speed, arty would be nonsense in combination with keshiks.

we got the encyclopedia, that's huge for us. :goodjob:

The power of the government that we are in is production. I would continue to abuse this unitl at least past factories before we swap to a trade government. Production is awesome for us, and we should use our nice production to build Smith's, then bazzars, markets and banks.

Agree with Romeo.
Now when we have encyclopedia we should not really worry about science..
In fact i built non science improvements but kept building town clocks, guilds and mills.
We need to crank up on military though and get rid of all AIs on our continent before Phsicology and then think about science again.
I am not sure if Keshik will be useful much longer.
AIs on other continent have line infantry and dragoons. Iro's and Poly will have them anytime now and sending Keshik's against life infantry doesn't sound good.

lurker's comment: Yep, that's what I read too. Changelog is interesting reading, and a lot of it isn't in the civpedia. If you're playing 1.04, reading the changelog is very helpful. Hospitals are now excellent, and the 2 for 1 makes emancipation even less attractive

lurker's comment: Doubles city growth rate = acts as a Granary (same flag)

lurker's comment: Yes, T_McC is correct. You could sell off the Granary after that; but don't forget Granaries are required later for Modern Farms.
The biggest bonus is when you own Stonehenge; then, you don't have to rebuild Granaries.
But motsly, it won't matter at that time. It just seemed approriate for hospitals (btw, we tried to get the Longevity effect, but this is restricted to wonders).

This is really frelling getting on my nerves. What do people have against upgrading our labor? The worker to peasant path cost us NOTHING! It speeds up our worker speed. We have units still sitting around as slaves. I went through this last time.

I fix the inefficiency in our starvation program and we are now using bankers, not taxman. That gains few gold per turn.

I swap multiple high corruption cities to manors. In RaR every city can eventually be redeemed. A good starting point is getting the manors in place. If the cities are still bad add the courthouses.

 How do we have cities with high production having a full shield box. If these were cash rushes we wasted a full turn of production.
(IT) We get Economics, Leadership, and Ship Building for free.

LAK-719.jpg

Can you say rushed International Port?

Add +1 to the wastage level of labor as we can upgrade to engineers.
The speed 2 engineer is a much better worker.
I upgraded 16 units to engineer.
(IT) We get Cavalry Tactics, Flintlock, and Nationalism for Free.
We get the Iron Works message. It is in the first ring city of Kazan!

470 AD
New Orleans is auto-razed. The Americans have been destroyed.

I continue the worker upgrade program taking care of 6 more.
(IT) We get Constitutionalism and Federalism for free.

480 AD
(IT) We get Theory of Evolution for free.

490 AD
I continue the worker upgrade process and another 10 are upgraded.

500 AD
Yet another 4 workers are upgraded.

The leader finally reaches Tabriz to rush the IP.

510 AD
The worker upgrades still continue with another 6.
(IT) We get Grand Strategy for free.

520 AD
It will slow down the worker upgrade process, but I buy a worker from the Iroquois for $125. I still upgrade 3 workers including the one I just bought.
(IT) We get Naval Tactics for free.
A picture is worth 1000 words.
LAK-720.jpg

530 AD
I am back in upgrade mode again. 6 more workers are improved.
I build an Olive Oil colony so that we no longer need to import it from the Iroquois.

I should have done this one earlier, but I ship Tibet Camels for wm and $460.
(IT)
LAK-721.jpg

540 AD
I upgrade yet another 3 workers.
(IT) Tibet established an embassy with us.

550 AD
The upgrade process is completed with the last 2 workers that I am aware of upgraded. I may have missed a stray.

==========================

Summary:
I didn't build them yet, but we need 3 district courthouses for the Supreme Court.
That is the first of the two corruption help wonders. We really want that one. We will have requirements for Crystal Palace long before we get the right to build it.

I left no open deals with the Iroquois. Romeo can decide if we get gold from them to build Guild Halls, or start planning on a war.

IMO once the AI researches Steam Engine we should go full speed to High Explosives to get the right to build rails. We have the worker force to do so. I was almost temped to go full speed on Steam Engine despite GL2.

One block of my worker actions may look odd on the surface. The workers irrigating the useless tile are to get water up the blue line to Ulaanbaatar.

Actually, this situation calls for peaceful building. Good work on the IP and the war folks. I want to get core factories, banks, and the central bank before our next war. Our next victim will be polynesia, and we will want better troops then Keshiks. Keshiks are awesome at destroying fast units, kinda sucky at killing fortified pikes. We should never upgrade our keshiks, as they spawn free labor. Use artillary to redline, then send in the keshiks.
LK, do you have a rough estimate as to what Smiths is saving us on gpt? I will try and reach my goal of 100 more gpt without touching the sliders for it.

Turn 1: Swap Dalandzagrad from a prison to the heroic epic. It will be stuck at size 3 for a long time yet.
Turn 2: Persia declare on Tibet. Ta-tu starts Clauswitz. Ethiopia builds shakes.
Turn 3: Sell 2 luxes to Hammi so he can have some more research speed, sell iron to persia.
Turn 4: GA ends Wow, what a drop in income.
Turn 5: Tibet and Babylon ally against ethiopia, tibet and Iro ally against ethiopia. Ethiopia gets nationalism from us for silks. Funny how here best unit just got way better for cheap. You would almost think someone was propping her up.
Turn 6: Iro and Tibet sign MPP. Ethiopia is slowly eating Hammi. We get medicine and steam engine. We have 1 District court in Almarika.
Turn 7: We get electricity and steel. Get gold, 40 gpt and stuff from the Iro for steel.
Turn 8: Same ole same ole.
Turn 9: Get luxes and small amounts of gold from Ethiopia.
Turn 10: Iro build Bach's. I am building lots of Toll houses and saving gold for Clauswitz, so we can upgrade some of our units.
bed91.jpg

We were not even at the stage to build banks. We can war with Poly whenever we are ready. I would wait 20 turns or so. I am trying to slow down the tech pace as it is beneficial to us. We want to build some more stuff up. I think we want rails before the next war. We can't build the Supreme court yet, but are researching the tech at low speed. We have 1 DC.

LK, do you have a rough estimate as to what Smiths is saving us on gpt?
Not much at the moment as we were way lacking almost any revenue buildings. It was helping with some of the coastal city buildings such as ports and major ports. A lot of cities didn't even have a bazaar! I snuck in a few of those. However, we can now build goodies like the tollhouses since they cost no upkeep, but increase revenue.

We should never upgrade our keshiks, as they spawn free labor.
I agree 100%. If we go after weaker defense units and / or redline units we want to continue to get the free labor. We now have enough cash to upgrade it all. :D
With rails coming soon we need all the workers we can get our hands on.

It looks like Romeo already snuck in some, but guildhalls and tollhouses should a priority as they are dependent on the gold being imported from the Iroquois. The banks we want also require gold along bazaars and marketplaces built.

I think we have tollhouses in all key cities except Ta-Tu. When Clauswitz finishes, we should throw up a tollhouse there as well. A tollhouse in Tabriz was worth 12 gpt!! I expect this to be larger in the core cities.
@Doc, to make feudal monarchy more balanced with Demo, manors should be commerical, (i.e. free upkeep with smiths) or eliminate WW.
Feudal is a very limited scope governement, and we are getting all the goody out of it, and should have all the goody out of it in ~15 turns. (I would say after the Crystal Palace comes in, we revolt to federal republi.)

When Clauswitz comes in, I would upgrade in the following order.
1) All Champs that are not regular. Elite champs are not useful to us as we are keeping our keshiks for their marvelous fishing ability. Reg champs should be disbanded if they exist. Champs become line infantry/rifles
2) Spears that are better than regular. Any reg units should be disbanded.
3) Pikes.
4) TG's and anything else I missed.
This way we will increase our power graph the most, and get some nice units out of the deal.

Looking very good here. I've got it, and will see if I can get it posted in a few hours. If not, tomorrow night.

Well, I kept up the builder turns. Gpt continues to rise, and I dropped the science slider to 0% every turn to get extra money. Most of the basic tax boosters are done in the cities we built. The American cities are still mostly working on production boosters at this point. The reason for 0% is that our we have more tax boosters than science, and I figured that as science boosters came online, we could put research up to 60-70% and get the Supreme Court tech quickly.

Ta-Tu built Clausewitz's On War, and the upgrade process started. I took it slowly though so as to maintain some defense in our coastal cities. After On War, Ta-Tu built a Toll House, and then I guess next turn when I got the build completion pop-up I accidentally hit enter, and Ta-Tu started the National Gallery. I didn't notice for a few turns, so I decided to let it finish since it as 100% science booster there is better than anywhere else.

Workers are running out of things to do other than mine useless jungle tiles. I didn't really pay much attention to using them efficiently since I didn't really care that much.

I think a trade became available in the last turn where we could get some money for an extra resource. I forgot to look into it, though.

Oh, and we got almost nothing from the Encyclopedie. Replaceable Parts, and whatever tech we knew we were going to get on the first IT.

looking good, shall we think of expansion. either tonight or tomorrow night
