RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide bombing that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, a party aide and a military official said.

I really can't make any sense of what's happening in Pakistan anymore. This month some suicide bomber targeted a mosque in Pakistan on a holy day where some 50+ people died . It seems there was a government official in the mosque was the target.

Well she did rule Pakistan for 2 terms .

What's the point in elections now. Musharaff made his pet judiciary disqualify Sharif. Now that Benazir is dead there is no opposition in Pakistan and he will make sure no one else can rise up to be a credible oppostion leader. Looks like we are struck with Musharaff for the time being .

I don't pretend to understand Pakistani politics, but wasn't she run out of office because she was caught red-handed stealing the country blind? As was her husband before her? Not that she deserved to be murdered, but how was she looked up to when she was so corrupt? Granted, theft and corruption seem to be the national pastime, but still....
