Best 1990s video game?

Civ 1 was GREAT in its moment, there was nothing smilar back then. It all depends on how many hours have you spent playing a game. I played more hours to Civ1 in the Amiga than to Civ2, (which was a much more developed and better game obviously). I got totally addicted to it as never before or after to any other game.

I also played Civ I more in the Amiga. And i did think it was a great game. But it had many faults too (horrible graphics, simple tech tree, only random map etc). It was my favorite strategy game at the time, still. But Utopia, which is a year older than Civ I, clearly looked a lot better and had its own classic value.

And given that Civ II also came in the same decade, i don't think Civ I can contend next to it (Civ II was an improvement on all fronts, something which never again happened in the Civ series, in my view).

hohum. guess i'll join in since game of the year thread is pretty dead.

betrayal at krondor:
this game actually took me years to beat, because i got sick of the grinding and "realistic" elements of the game, like having to eat food and going to temples to cure serious wounds and diseases. didn't play it when it originally came out. only came upon it when i was looking for rpgs that had turn-based combat.it's probably the first and only series of games that combined text-heavy story-telling and a western rpg style. great plot and characters. combat was challenging, and it had interesting puzzles that weren't madly obscure. also a pioneer in using real(un-textured) 3D polygons in the overworld.

Terranigma is the king of the 90s. Nuff said fam.
