Best AI Allies

Fate has spoken; I was just considering making a thread similar to this. There are two large religious blocks in my game at the moment; Confucian and Jewish. The Jewish block is led by me, Shaka and Montezuma. The Confucian block is led by Gandhi and Cleopatra. I'm feeling pretty good about the upcoming war; I'll post back with how my erstwhile allies perform

Really? Talk about barbarians at the gates...

i have to give izzy some props here. In 2 games where i vassalize her and gotten in a war with someone Izzy was willing to sent troops. In my current game she sent around 20 troops to support one of my cities. No other allie AI i have gone to war with actually sent in real troops in a fight.

here is props to Izzy, annoying as hell when you are on her bad side. But when she is on your side, she really is on your side.

Definitely. The only time I can get AIs to directly help me is when I am inbetween them and the enemy. Not an enviable position, but better than a 2-front war.

If we are talking vassals, the best AIs to have are the most warlike ones. You can donate to them a few technologies to bring them up to speed, and then they will just pump out troops to aid you in battle. They won't try to sneak off for a culture victory or anything like that. Thus, Montezuma might be your best friend (after he was your enemy).

Do you mean Gandhi and Hatshepsut, or are you playing with a mod?

My absolute favorite ally to have is Isabella. As long as you share the same religion she is as docile as a cow... towards you anyway.

Catherine is another favorite of mine. She seems to settle a lot of cities at the start of the game. Then after that declares war on whomever is closest.

Tokugawa is a nice attack dog, but in my opinion to much work to get his cold heart to warm up to you.

Worst ally in my opinion, Survayaman II (...thingy). I've never been on good terms with him. In any game. Every time I see him show up in the game I cringe.

Napoleon isn't too bad either, but I usually am playing as him so we seldom meet. :king:

Izzy can sometimes be a pain if she converts all your cities to her religion and then founds another one and changes to that :(

I think Izzy just does it to annoy you ;)

Well, it's working!

Yeah, she goes from like +8 to -5 immediately when she does it ;)

Ah, this calls to mind the time when I had Religious Ally/Friend Gilgamesh for the entire game, only to have him backstab me. FROM FRIENDLY wouldn't you believe it?

It's all good as I already won a U.N. victory 10 turns before he wanted to turn the tables. I forgive him. :king:

I have vaselized Mansu, Saladin and Bizmark when they still had 5 or 6 cities. They could still tech. I told them what to tech and traded with them afterwards - worked out well all 3 times. I'm sure this would work well with other leaders as well.

Basically I like AIs that trade techs, tech well and are not next to me.

Justinian has some muscle and will have your back if you're his religion and your opponents are not. This is sometimes in my experience true with Brenus as well. I haven't really befriended any other "attack dogs" besides these two, but others have.

Justinian is a pretty annoying civ to have against you, he tends to have a massive territory and keeps up with the techs.

I have some good memories from alliance with Darius. I was playing Incan did a quechua early
rush and wiped two civilizations from my continent. Darius helped me a lot with science, gave me resources I needed and together we were so strong that nobody even dared to touch me.

I won the game by time.

I really don't think you needed Daruis to be so strong no-one dared touch you :p

I like the zealots since they're usually a secure border and don't tend to trip VC's early on their own very early. After them, I'll take warmongers (if I can get them as allies) as then they're not attacking me AND they're screwing up other techers. This opens larger strike windows.

Really I'll take anyone who's in position to screw me out of threat by using diplo though. All you need is some tech whoring with 1-3 AIs to sink the rest behind.

Izzy is my absolute favorite <3. But, sal/zara/justinian/etc are ok too and sal/just are more practical since they don't declare @ pleased.
