In celebration of the record-smashing first week DVD sales of Phoenix Nights and the enormous amount of time on my hands at the moment I have decided to launch a thread about the best British situation comedy of all-time. Obviously this thread lends itself to the use of a poll but since there are only 19 options (+1 other) available such a poll is far from conclusive. So, no complains about a show lacking from the poll is basically what I'm saying. The two requirements for a nomination is that the show must be British and must be a sitcom. Therefore you cannot choose Monty Python because it is not a sitcom, you cannot chose Seinfeld because it is not British and you cannot choose Will & Grace because that's not comedy. Understand? Good.

I voted for "The Vicar of Dibley", because that sounds especially British.

Blackadder.

Although I object to "britcom". Conjures up too many images of "britpop" which was the worst pile of complete rubbish ever.

"British sitcom" ain't so hard to write, huh? ;)

I voted other. 'Allo 'Allo is one of the most memorable series I've ever seen.

Who could not remeber things like:

"Listen very carefully I will say this only once"
"What?"
"I said: Listen very carefully I will say this only once!"

And those accents. There wasn't anything extremely special or artistic about that serie. But it has stayed in my mind ever since I saw it, and addictive it was too:D

Blackadder and none shall come close without being subjected to the torture of giving Baldrick a bath;)

How could you have possibly left Are You Being Served off the list?

I voted other for that.

"isn't" aint so hard to write either, well, be it?;)

Depends on which Black Adder. I didnt like the first one, loved all the rest. Fawlty Towers is better than Black Adder 1

The Will & Grace clause.

They are all one and the same for the purposes of this thread.

Never has a television series captured the heart of the French character more accurately.

Very hard. I voted Only Fools, but could have chosen Young Ones, Red Dwarf and Blackadder.
I am probably the only one in Britain who doesn’t rate Farty Towels that highly. It’s good, but not that good.

The Germans wern't bad either. I think one of the best parts was when two British soldiers came to the French's aid. Then they captured the French characters view of the British by simply using some very stereotypical English traits:lol:
