Looking for the best FFH Setup--what modmods would you recommend? Not interested as much in additional civs as I am in better gameplay: better AI decisions, more strategy, etc. What modmods do you play with? Why?

Lots of people will disagree with me, but I'd play with the base game rather than with Fall Further, especially if you're interested in the AI acting sanely. In my experience FF adds more content, but is less stable (I haven't been able to finish a single-player game yet) and the AI doesn't know how to deal with all the added options.

I can't speak to Orbis, Wild Mana et al, but I remember people saying wild mana improves the AI beyond what was merged in. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can weigh in on that one.

there's simply no point in playing base FFH anymore. Wild Mana has less issues, better AI and faster turns, plus most of its features are optional if you don't happen to like them. if you want more content go for Orbis or RifE, but gameplay and AI are the realm of Wild Mana

I second Gekko on that; Sephi and his team have done a great job with Wildmana. That said, I would probably also enjoy RifE and Orbis if they had the speed and the competent AI that Wildmana has.

I thought a lot of the AI stuff from wildmana was ported into the base game? Or is wildmana still a lot smarter?

We're doing alot for speed in RifE for the next version (around a 30% decrease in turn times in the late game in our test version ;)), and I've discussed my dislike of certain methods WildMana used for the AI so I won't get into that here. We're planning to do some of our own work there as it is.

My personal preference is FF.
Orbis is to polished and to trimmed like one of those Beatles haircuts and RifE is (while having the most potential for greatness of the lot) still way, way to instable.

Not for much longer. ;)

Our team version is already FAR more stable; Testers regularly finish games without a crash. Those that do crash typically can reload past those crashes. ;)

A lot was ported and a lot was not. Also keep in mind that Wildmana is still in development. Skyre added some nice stuff lately :D
I guess the biggest differences you will see in war, naval, magic and the ability of the AI to actually win a game (for example culture victory).

I read some good things about the "Better Economic AI" (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=323536). Anyone know if it is compatible with WildMana?
That mod was indeed awesome. I merged some parts of it into Wildmana and later Kael merged them from Wildmana into FFH. So unless you played with a year old version of FFH you could already enjoy it.

From what I've experienced:

Wildmana has the best AI and the fewest 'major' changes (and most are optional)
Orbis is the most polished, and has the most drastic 'basic gameplay' changes, but the AI is extremely passive.
RiFE has the most potential and the most toys, but is currently unstable and EXTREMELY punishing in the wilds (i.e. add about 50% more civs then you want to survive to the midgame)

All three are still in development, and they all have their own modmodmods, so check back oftem

*starts stopwatch to see how long it take Valkrionn to plug his new version, which will be out ... sometime*

All of them have modmodmods, but the only one that has any of a decent size would be RifE. ;)

Orbis simply doesn't have as many (Partially my fault there, as Opera is now a team member... though IIRC, there is at least one in development), and Wild Mana tends to merge them into the mod quickly (during development, even). RifE, on the other hand, has several of a large size; 3 civilizations (in various stages of development), a mod with MANY new leaders, several new 'feature' mods, and then a very large one called DIAL which is in development (but mostly waiting on us to get the new version out).

As for RifE being unstable and punishing... Not in the next version. Lots of work been done there. We're hoping to get it out in two weeks; Finals are next week, so I should have some time again. ;)

You can stop your watch at ~20 minutes. Was in the other room. ;)

I tried Fall Further, but I felt the game was severely unbalanced with excessive brokenness and exploits. I tried WildMana, but I didn;t like how the new AI behaved much. In the end I went back to base FFH... though I made a new (minor) modmods of that.

I suppose I should try Orbis sometime...
