Best Millitary unit in civ2 opinion poll.

the best unit is the fanatic...

get yourself lots of fanatics, and storm the enemy with impetuous wave-assaults of stupid kamikaze fanatics....

:soldier: surrender to my sadam Hussainesques tactics

Just finished the GOTM 25 -- had my first experience with a late game war in years. Carthage was the last AI to take out -- we both had all the techs, were both in Fundy, and both had war chests over $20K. My spies found that a nice developed city would cost $13K, and a single unit near their capital was available for the lowly price of $6.6K. Some of the AI cities were defended by six or seven units, but a few had twelve. I lost a couple of vet tanks, thinking that they could take out vet rifles, but the job came down to Howies.

My BB/Aegis Cruiser pairs soaked up a bunch of Cruise missiles, and ate a few stealth bombers to boot. My stealth fighters took serious damage on the few units they faced, so I was less impressed with them. Sooo long story short, when facing an even up situation (where the spies are to an extent neutralized), the Howies get the call.

I agree on the howitzer, stealth fighter and spies. But is miss one vital unit i use a lot in modern warfare:

The Engineer!

They are the ones connecting the railroad systems to the enemy and building fortresses in strategic defence positions. I always make sure they can do this task in one turn so military units can cover them. For the ultimate blitzkrieg!

Bombers should not be left out, but overrall, Howitzers are the most useful to me.

To some of you fascists out there:

Kill one - And you are a murderer. Kill millions - And you are a conqueror. Kill all - And you will be god.

In other words, I need more nukes.

Engineers, transports, and freight, in that order. ;)
Still, all of them have an attack value of 0, which don't make them military units. I suppose they'd be military units if they are used for defense purposes though, which I know some are.:)

Does the phrase "Combat Engineers" mean anything to you? How about the last time the AI ran a transport up to one of your cities and unloaded tanks and marines in your face! And caravans and freight do have a defense factor. they make good scouts as well as providing the "supplies" needed to run your war machine.

Go look at Andu's last turn in the Deity+1 succession game (stories and tales forum), and you might want to rethink whether engineers, transports and freights should be considered military units! I'm still trying to figure out how he accomplished what he did.

Armor, gets more moves than a Howitzer
