Best National Anthem?

Macedonians used to have quite a large empire, maybe they are good organizers, law enforcers and administrators?

Well, not really, the Macedonian Empire collapsed just few moments after its first and only leader died...

So no, do not invite Macedonians. :)

and the results of the inhabitation of Bulgarians for the last say, 300 years?

Bulgarians actually live there for a much longer time, AFAIK. Maybe the results of several centuries of Ottoman rules?

BTW - have you seen this TV series? I have seen a few episodes:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhteşem_Yüzyıl

As you can see the problem with Ottoman rule was that only one century was Magnificent. Other centuries sucked.

If anything, we don't invite fictional creatures, unless it's unicorns or some of the more raunchier forest spirits.

^They can build glorious new monuments in Sofia, as in the center of the universe :)

The above is the 'Porta Macedonia', "built to commemorate 20 years of Macedonian independence", ie this ancient roman or byzantine monument was erected in the early 2010s.

Still not as classic as

Come on, all empires used to be fictional creatures until real people forged them into real beings. ;)

Haven't you heard of game Forge of Empires? Macedonians also play it, just that they do this in real life. :)

Most things in architecture have already been invented. It is hard to build something original, better to copy tested solutions. :D

Well, it looks similar to Brandenburger Tor in Berlin and to Arc de triomphe in Paris. Both are not exactly Roman or Byzantine... :)

The gate to the most boring part of Hell.

Unfortunately, they decided in the last 20 years, other than "forging an empire", to "forge their history". And then, to make the ab-so-lu-te-ly legitimate and authentic language, which to this day remains the best forgery of Bulgarian language ever existing.

Well, the Ottomans decided to torch the city (several times), and that prevented from modern Greeks living in Ancient Greek houses.

Those Ottomans, they always like to torch and pillage stuff.

By what I've heard by some friendly people who develop history, the Ottomans weren't very keen on keeping the Greeks rich enough to make pretty palaces.

^I knew that would be Athens. It is well-known that other from the center with the ancient stuff, and a circle around it, the rest is an utter abomination and not really a 'city' :p

Doesn't matter, it will either be gifted to independent Catalonia, or cleaned from orbit and rebuilt. :)

Well, at least they did not remove it completely and did not start teaching Ancient Macedonian to their school children. :p

Perhaps not enough of Ancient Macedonian has survived in written texts to reconstruct it fully ???

Well, Elvish is older than Macedonian, and I believe that is all that has to be said about this topic. Even Klingon might qualify, although by the 70s the comrade Socialists began their campaign which would eventually result into the creation we currently call Macedonia.

Still richer than Poland

Well, according to the World Bank data Poland's GDP PPP per capita in 2013 was 23649 and according to the CIA data Greece's GDP PPP per capita in 2013 was 23600, so not richer anymore.

Besides, I do not know any city in Poland which would be as ugly as Athens.

And - as far as I know - Greece was never under Communist rules, yet these buildings in Athens resemble (but are even worse) the ugliest of Communist-era architecture from Poland...

As a codified / standard literary (written) language, yes.

But a South Slavic dialect called Macedonian is much older (I posted for example 16th-17th century sources which call it like this).

Of course it could be considered one of regional dialects of Bulgarian. ;)

^ Bulgarians and Greeks are Southern Europeans. It is therefore an "interracial" chat.

All Europe east of Berlin is Eastern Europe.

But how about creating a separate "chatroom ghetto" for Australians? :goodjob:

We don't go around hijacking threads to post about Slavic migrations or Fyromia or whatever.
