It's a tough one but for me, in terms of 'most hours played', there can be only one:

I have to say the Sims. Maxis used to make some really great expansions - at least up to the first three. After that I didn't like them anymore.

No, it's not that I doubt that the Sims is the greatest selling PC (and possibly overall) gaming franchise of all time, it's that I doubt that high sales makes one game (and it's expansions) into a series. Makes no logical sense to me.

You really hate the Sims? Or do you just hate the fact that they've made so many expansions and milked the franchise till it's dry? IMO the Sims was one of the most fun games I've ever played, and the first three or so expansions really kept me going. But then I just got bored, and I can't imagine how people still buy new expansions for it, four years after the original game was released (by now the graphics are too awful to bear IMO, not to mention that the concept has gone beyond old). And I wouldn't say Maxis sucks, since SimCity4 is great... I actually like the turn Maxis has taken since it was engulfed by EA. (Making a few high quality games, as opposed to wasting time on such projects as "SimSafari" and "SimHealth.")

The sims was fun... for about an hour. Then it got boring and pointless.
Simcity 4 is inferior to SimCity 2000
I hate EA
I'd rather have new projects rather than sequels.
Maxis I say has gone down the same road Blizzard has. Both started out with so-so games, pulled off some really great games, then started making crappy sequels with no purpose.
