There aren't many good that are running new episodes... There's no question that the US and the British sitcoms outperforms our indigenous, but the only decent that are coming from you seems to be How I Met Your Mother.. I kind of liked The New Adventures of Old Christine also, but neither reaches any higher standards... Am I missing something?

meh, the comedy series pretty much died in the 90s with the exception of Scrubs. the sitcom died when Friends ended. there are no funny ha-ha programs on right now. then again I am a cranky middle-aged guy so what do I know.

if you like fart jokes, boobs and mysoginistic undertones then HIMYM or the ghastly 2 1/2 men might entertain you. that crap is very successfull outside of the US as well. what do I know, apparently there are people who watch Desperate Housewives...

I quite like The Big Bang Theory. And, as Sinead O'Connor might say, nothing compares, nothing compares, to The IT Crowd.

Yes, I am a nerd.

My friend, it seems, has never braved the waves of fabled Albion. Our bountiful fields have produced the most sumptuous of crops these two-score seasons. ;)

Right now, there's The IT Crowd, Peep Show, Outnumbered, The In Betweeners and The Mighty Boosh, although that's in a sort of between-series limbo right now, and if you like sketch comedy That Mitchell and Webb Look is worth checking out. If you're willing to dig back a few years, there's Black Books, Spaced, Green Wing, Nathan Barley, Extras, The Office and The League of Gentleman.

And Friends was grossly over-rated anyway. It was good, but not incomparably so, and the over-abundance of drama tended to dilute the tone.

well the BBC does have quality shows, I'll give you that.

My favorite comedy that's on right now is definately Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's been on for a decade, but the quality has not fallen off. I laughted as heartily this season as I had any previous season. Also you don't have to worry about canned laughter or even any written dialogue for that matter.

Modern Family might be the only comedy/sitcom on network television worth watching right now.

But on cable, I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

There's nothing I go out of my way to watch. I'll watch Big Bang Theory if it's on and I have nothing better to do though. Good News Week is hilarious but it's not a series.

How was nobody mentioned How I Met Your Mother yet???

Modern Family is okay, but this is by FAR the funniest show on TV.

Nobody except the OP that is :p

When Two and a half men gets mentioned it shows the general crappiness of the genre.

Nothing in American sitcoms stands out in recent years. They tend to be formulaic and dull.

Two shows I like that are unmentioned in this thread are Eastbound & Down and Community. It's Always Sunny and Curb are also good.

I've never like any of the current CBS comedies.
