I have been thinking and doing some calculation and I think I have found when would be an appropriate time to enter a new era (both turn and year). Of course there is ''sort of" in the brackets, because experienced civ players hardly follow this (since there are deity players which finish their games with science victory in 1600 AD). So this thread is mainly here to help new and less experienced civ5 players to know about which time they should enter certain era, and of course to try to beat that limit (by entering the New Era before that time):

While I do appreciate your efforts to maximize efficiency, in reality with enough growth and science buildings you can fairly regularly and easily be in these eras by these turns even for new players. I only know stuff for standard era though.

Standard
Ancient Era: t0-t60
Classical Era: t60-t110
Medieval Era: t110-t150
Renaissance Era: t150-t210
Industrial Era: t210-t260
Modern Era: t260-t330
Atomic Era: t330-t370
Info Era: t375-ish (usually skip straight to satellites with rationalism finisher).

Once you got the basics down, learn to tech faster a combination of right beelining, RAs, start strat, more growth, and bulbing. The end result should be, on a standard map with a standard civ, entering these eras by about these turns:

Standard
Ancient Era: t0-t60
Classical Era: t45-t100
Medieval Era: t90-t140
Renaissance Era: t125-t175
Industrial Era: t175-t220
Modern Era: t210-t250
Atomic Era: t240-t250
Info Era: 2 turns after atomic era (t260 at latest).

Of course, just as I mentioned above, once you learn how to use science and growth well, you will probably enter new eras much earlier than turns I mentioned above. This was just to help people who have problems with science and growth. Just to give them some directions about which time they should enter the New Era (by that I mean have all the technologies researched in prior era, you can easily enter new eras much earlier than turns mentioned in my post above since depending on your starting location, civ you play with, victory type you aim for you will beeline technologies according to that, not to mention that situation itself can play a huge role as well).
That's why I put ''sort of" in the brackets to give people the approximate time when they should research all techs in the previous era.

In BNW you may not want to move into a new era if you are trying for a theming bonus. Broadway for instance requires 3 pieces of music from the same civ and from the same era.
Personally I like to get into the Renaissance era asap so I can unlock Rationalism.

Yes, or you might want to delay the possibility of a world leader getting elected. For instance, Alex or Ramkamhaeng has 10 CS allies but everyone is still in the atomic era. In that case, you might not want to speed up the path to a diplo win if you are going for a culture win.

Faith prices for religious purchases are also much higher in every era. If you focus on religion, especially on religious building, sometimes you may want to delay reneissance if you are the tech leader or close behind.

Yeah, I was about to point out missionary costs. That's often a legitimate concern.

Sometimes it's better to have more techs from a previous era than to enter a new era. It all depends on your short-term strategy in the game.
