After playing for awhile, what civilization do you feel has the best unique unit?

Navy SEAL
War Chariot
Camel Archer
Jaguar
Cho-Ku-Nu
Redcoat
Musketeer
Panzer
Phalanx
Quechua
Fast Worker
Samurai
Skirmisher
Keshik
Immortal
Praetorian
Cossack
Conquistador

Before I got the game I didnt think from the pre release info that it would be this way but I do believe that the Praetorian probably takes the cake.

Jaguar Warrior :D  But I agree, praetorians are a bit overpowered. I think they are the most powerful.

I like the cossacks out of the ones I've played. The Aztecs have a decent one, and so do the Persians, but they come wayyy too soon and ancient war in this game is meaningless.

Sorry dantius but I dont agree. The fact is that on the higher levels it is basically impossible to win WITHOUT ancient warfare and the praets are by far the best ancient unit.

Cossacs=> OVERRUN!

I always thought that the Legion was the best unit in Civ3, and I haven't changed my mind in Civ4...

Yeah, the Praetorian is very strong. Brute force. :)

By the way, the weakest UU must be the Aztec Jaguar. It's strength 5 and replaces the Swordsman which is strength 6! The Praetorian also replaces the Swordsman and it's strength 8. All cost 40 hammers to build. Sure you don't need iron for the Jaguars, and they get a (useless) woodsman promotion, but STILL!

The Indian Fast Worker is pretty useless too I think. A normal Worker has movement 2 and a Fast Worker has movement 3. Doesn't make much of a difference at all. OK, it's around all the time, and it's the only UU that is useful for a completely peaceful civ, but I'd still say it's pretty useless. If the normal Worker had movement 1 and the fast worker had movement 2, it would have been a lot more useful.

I've played the Romans twice and on both occasions found it a very good unit to have. I haven't put enough games under the rest of the civs to rule out all the others as of yet, but for now it gets my vote.

Русская кавалерия!
The Cossack!

Praets by a mile. Being able to take out cities in the early age without needing catapults is a godsend. There's no other units prior to war elephants and macemen that can reliably take out archers in cities.

While other civs are happy to grab an expansion city or two in early pre-cat wars the romans can happilly be taking over entire civilizations.

Woodsman promo isn´t completely useless, on lvl 2 u get double movement in woods....pretty handy for surprise attacks out of, or in jungle.

I think the Panzer looks best, but the most useful is the Cossack.
Im fighting a war with Russia and they are beginning to overrun me.

Jags and Praets.

Jags are good for early on rushes, and you don't even need a resource.
Praets, well... they're just early macemen. :)

Panzers, hands down. :D They just look awesome.

Praetorians. They have 8 strengh and archers hve 3 strengh +50% city defense +25% from fortify which equals 5.25, but that is without terrain or city defense, which is about a 20% bonus each anyway.

From what I have heard, Praetorians are quite powerful. But I have not used them yet. So of the ones I have used, Musketeers. BTW, I have only used two civs, Mali and France, so I can hardly make an accurate selection. :p

I really like the samurai, 2 free strikes... often you win without taking any damage, can march on right away.
