What is your favourite world wonder?

Being limited to 25, I have eliminated the worst ones from the other poll and merged Broadway, Holywood and Rock N Roll together

Sorry if I missed out an important one.

I voted for the Mausoleum because it can give a free golden age if you have two total in your game, note that im writing this based on actual effects and not on how available it is (cause i can almost never get it).

looks like you accidentally voted for the great lighthouse

There are no votes for the MoM at the moment, so you must have forgotten to vote. :p

dang, accidentally hit the light house :/

thats another good one but i prefer the mausoleum

Frankly, a "best wonders" poll that leaves out the near-autowin wonder is really iffy.

There is not a single wonder on that list that provides an objectively better benefit than the apostolic palace. People who would struggle to win at all on deity can put up wins >50% of the time they manage to pick it up. The hammer bonus and political control is nice, but just that would make it comparable to other wonders. Unlocking a victory condition that only requires one civ to favor you, however, makes it the single most powerful (and broken) wonder in the entire game in single player, bar none...and it isn't even on the poll list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand it's easy to miss it since it wasn't on the other poll, but neither were mids/glh/tgl/so on...and it is stronger than any of them. One well-known resident wonder spammer has said he refuses to build it because it is so broken :p.

If we remove Apostolic Palace and its puny little brother the UN, then the "best" wonder is VERY map dependent. There is not a single wonder on this list that is always a good idea to build. Building any one of these in the wrong situation is a direct hindrance to your game.

As for non-diplo cheese favorites, give me TGL, GLH, or mids depending on the map and start...or maybe the "12 chariots" wonder if things look hairy.

AP is cheesy though.

Pyramids is the best if you can expand enough to make yourself safe when you build it.

Cheesy, you say. Why do you say this? Because the way it is currently set up, it is so good it is broken. For "best wonder", it is objectively untouchable because it is the only one that can directly and soundly lead to a win despite tech position, # cities, or power rating. If you build it and stay alive, vast majority of cases you win...it is the ONLY wonder where that is true.

Yeah but it doesn't make for an enjoyable game experience. Pyramids do 'cos you can become a tech monster with a small empire.

there is something you can download to edit the polls - i'll try adding AP

sorry -cant do it

BOTM 10 reminds us that you can become a tech monster using scientists and workshops without pyramids ;).

They're a trap w/o stone/ind, and sometimes with...but when they're good, they're *GOOD*.

I personaly have to say The Great Wall. (From my limited experience.)

AP is more of a "Instant Victory" than an actual wonder. It's something like that instant-win cultural wonder in Revoloutions, because if you control it the game is pretty much yours.

Anyway.

Oracle is a wonderful little peice to tech to Theo,Metal Casting,or if you can hold other civs off getting it for a while, even Education. It's not too expensive, looks nice in your city, and keeps the AI from getting a free tech.

I'm playing GMaj80 at the mo - Suleiman - pyramids without stone and Jans and cannons when they have longbows should have been a win but I messed it up ;) Pyramids gave me an engineer at 25% chance so free Great Lib too.

Let's just say AP is left out due to the fact that it is OP

Hehe. I bet you could have had jans/cannons vs longbows w/o pyramids, too. Probably with more cities and vs a weaker 1st opponent.

Pyramids gave me an engineer at 25% chance so free Great Lib too.

Nope.

Well free-ish. I already have about 6 settled GS in the Oxford capital ;)

Just to clarify, you mean the best or the favourite wonder ? You actually say both in the OP, but they are far of meaning the same thing ;) For a example ( taken from 2 recent and still on going threads ) I can like of a terrible wonder because of it's cool animation :p

P.S besides all of the already mentioned wonders, you left other 14 wonders out that you even didn't thinked on most likely ( nobody does think on them as wonders most of the time , so i don't blame you :p )

The OP *does* specify "world" wonders ;).

Given that the AP isn't on the list, I'd agree, depending on map. On most maps, it's great, both for barbs and early EP. You might even get an early great spy for 4 techs.

AP is fantastic. Besides, cheesy wins, you can get 4 base hammers for 2 cheap buildings. It can really help diplomacy too. If you want to conquer somebody who isn't your friend, get in a holy war. Diplo points for shared war with your friends. An odd one I've used on OCC is +2 diplo for voting for somebody else (for resident, not victory). Helps for getting neighbor Shaka or Rags to friendly.

On most maps, GW is best behind AP. Exception would be archipelago - Great Lighthouse rules.
