BTW for those of you looking for some good playthrough's from the mentioned players, I highly recomend TMIT's Immortal University Mao series (my favourite), his Haxzor Darius and his Pericles series. Those are the most fun to watch in my opinion.

edit: Note that one of the best/optimal ways of turning food into hammers early game when hammers are generally low is to 2 or 3 pop workers and settlers.

This is especially effective when you have a food rich but happiness poor capital. Build barb protection/library/granary/wonders/etc to size six, switch to settler, one turn production, then whip to size three and start over.

If your Imperialistic, you can 2 pop whip settlers after 1 turn.
I've seen AZ thinking that he has to grow to size 6 to whip, when he doesnt. (think he was Justinian, but it could have been Augustus or Julius)
If your not IMP, then you should work that settler for a few turns before you 3 pop whip for massive overflow hammers to next build.

@suntzu AZ whips every game I've seen so any vid would be good. He doesn't necessarily explain things but I picked up in on like a 'monkey see monkey do' sort of thing. You will be able to increase your difficulty level pretty quickly after watching a few. Remember, the people like being slaves -- they would rather work to death then feel crowded.

@lymond I gotta check out some of your vids sometime. What is your fave game you have recorded? Ill watch that one.

@blunder Yeah staring at someone else playing will get boring and make you feel like playing. Watch what you can, soak in a bit of info, then use it in your own games. I've gone back into games I've started after watching vids and laughed and how horrible I was playing, then I conquer some inferior civ using my new found knowledge.

@Brad - I really only recorded one full video as well as tag-teaming on a succession game video. I intended to do more but the recording stuff started to crap out on me. I've considered starting up again on my new computer but it is a bear to get everything running smoothly. My one video should be decent for newer players, I think. I do try to explain some stuff, at least early on.

Anyone know of a lets play where they get one of these ridiculous lib dates , i always have trouble hitting lib before like 600 ad, but ive seen many screenshots of people hitting lib at like 250ad etc. I feel aside from diplomacy, expansion is one of the things that ruins me. Sometimes im in such a rush to get to 6 or 7 cities, i screw myself before i have the necessary techs to keep an empire like that going, and then it takes even longer to get to the techs to keep it going. Its always obvious in retrospect but i think watching a few of those games would really help me. Im talking mostly about immortal here, i understand on deity normally you get boxed in early so this is less of a concern, but when i have the ability to build alot of cities, i always think that a city is always something i should snag as quickly as possible

He's my hero when it comes to Civ4. I pretty much learned how to be a better Civ4 player thanks to him. He can play on Immortal. He knows what he is doing. He is very informative on his videos. He is entertaining and humorous. If his strategy works on Immortal then it should surely work on lower difficulties. If you have any questions, he usually replies to your comments on YouTube and provides a follow up in his next recording.

Chris67132 is the guy from whom i've learned the most about civ4 and am able to play on Deity now. When i only started to play civ 4 TMIT vids where of a great help. They were newb friendly and helped me master immortal pretty easy.

To me it's almost the same if I play or if I watch someone else play. Reading is fun too. Here and there, you really can find everything! If you think the same way and if you have time check those Let's plays out. When I started playing Civ4, they were first thing that improved my game before I found this great forum. Write ups are helpful too!

And of course great articles in War Academy and almost every answer to all the questions ever asked in Strategy Articles section.

And as someone's signature said: Search function is your friend! Yes it is. Use it!

Sullla's LP featuring Willem of the Dutch is possibly my favorite one of them all. He is very good at explaining just about everything that he does.

The only thing that is negative from an educational standpoint that I can think of is that he has tech trading disabled.

Exactly! I started watching Let's plays cause my machine can't deal with C2C mod (that's how I found quill18 - but his regular BtS Rome LP on Emperor is one of my favs) and all that took me to AZ, TMIT and Sullla. We all know AZ & TMIT are excellent players, but Sullla's Willem LP I recommended here in one of my first posts to all noobs like me, cause he takes time to explain just about everything.

Sullla's are my favs. He speaks well, explains most things, doesn't go too fast, and his YouTube channel is very well organized so it's easier to watch the vids in order. He has a new series being posted...'all war'.
