Sulla = beyond ranking - just for education

1) TheMeInTeam - proper diff level for me and nice commentary
2) lymond - proper diff level but worse comm than TMIT but stoill nice
3) AbsoluteZero - if there were more recent immo games, but uploads deity, still nice to watch

I dont like Grimith's voice so I dont watch :P

AZ posted a Toku IMM game not too long ago if you haven't seen it:
Civ 4 IMM 17 (Tokugawa )

He kinda destroys the map IIRC

Sulla isn't a real warmonger, from what I saw he uses too little siege and so the war lasts long. I think AZ is the best since the pace is fast enough so it doesn't get boring, but it's still deity. And we get to see war! :D

Quill18 just started a new civ IV game. He's not as good as the others but he is entertaining.

Sulla is very good for learning a lot of the mechanics, but he is so methodical and a little too conservative at times.

TMIT is great but plays a little fast. He is probably the best all around for quality and entertainment.

AZ is a great player but he doesn't commentary much on the vids I've seen. More explanation would be really good.

I think I remember Lymond as being very good in terms of quality but he only has 2 series posted. I would love to see more.

I think the quickest way to get good habits on how to play on high levels is actually Chris.

He does rarely mistake(s) and is generally crushing maps, maybe he isn't as educational as Sullla, but his gameplay is really crushing. And he actually sometimes even MMs :-D.

while we all love tmit, he has tendency to make a lot of mistakes ;-).

Didn't watch Quill in Civ IV, but since he has really broad spectre of games, he probably won't be very educational for civ iv players.

Yeah...when I first watched quill I didn't know much about the game. Now I wanted to comment on his vid, to warn him about his mistakes. But that would take too long, even for part 1. :p Still, it's Monarch diff, so he got the basics and he is entertaining.

Thanks for the update!

I've finally also joined the CIV-youtubers and just submitted my first video.

Settings are Deity / OOC / Diplomatic, game has a 12xx winning date and was played under HoF rules, like all my other games too.

I hope that you'll enjoy the video, which is still missing an audio-commentary for the last 30-40 minutes, which I'll add when I can. There's basically nothing in that part of the video that needs to be explained, as I think I did a good job on explaining everything in before, and I believe the full 1080p HD quality will catch your attention, should something else not do that already :) .

Don't forget to vote for "like" in case you do, and maybe leave a comment, in case you got a question, or feel like it. There also be an extra thread on this video in the forums though which you'll find in the strategy articles subsection, once I've fixed the problem and recorded a complete audio-commentary :) .

I hope you can enjoy :) .

I'm still a 100% HoF player and on my quest to become a "Deity Elite Quattromaster" , so you can choose below:

Civs:
  • America
  • Aztec
  • Babylon
  • Byzantinum
  • Celt
  • Ethiopia
  • France
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Khmer
  • Native Americans
  • Netherlands
  • Ottoman
  • Portugal
  • Viking
  • Zulu

Map-types:
  • Boreal
  • Continents
  • Global Highlands
  • Great Plains
  • Highlands
  • Ice Age
  • Medium and Small

Victory-types:
  • Religious
  • Space-race (Classic "Vanilla" Space-race (BtS would be Space-Colony))
  • Time

Any form of advanced start (like Classical, Industrial etc.) is possible too, then the conditions listed don't need to apply (as the game doesn't count towards them anyhow) , and if I can get a #1 slot in the HoF, I'm also willing to play i. e. a map which I already have 2 times (i. e. Pangaea, Inland Sea, Terra) or CIVs I atm. only have 1 time (Anybody except Egypt, England, Korea or India) .

Certain victory conditions as for example "Domination, Conquest or Diplomatic" are generally simple as I have to play multiple games for each anyhow, because there are 30+ Civs but only 7 victory conditions.

What you can choose freely is the Speed of a round (so Normal, Quick, Marathon, Epic) , but the #1 HoF rule still applies, so basically the principle of "the more I can achieve with only one game" raises the chances for me to play with those settings, but "the weaker the HoF slot I can go for" , the more possibilities there are.

Generally I have no interest in beating any games where I currently already hold the #1 (non-Incan) position. The "Ad-hoc" query function of the HoF will help you find games that would appear "attractive" to me :) .

Oh, that is nice, there is no or very little videos on YT for nonstandard mapscripts.
I would really like to see how top players handle boreal maps.

Boreal, so Aztec and jags :] maybe it is not a best mapscript for some space race, but nice to see it how aztecs work without sac altars :P

Medium/small mapscrip screams for Joao's Feitorias or ragnars turboboats.

I would like to see someone win culture/space in Boreal before 2050AD.

As for me, I watched AZ and TMIT only. The good thing about AZ - he has a lot of Deity videos (50+?) and very good percent of wins. When I watch his videos I start to think that Deity is easy, but when I play myself I always do something wrong

@Seraiel
If you want a real challenge at Deity then please try Warlords (2.08-2.13), Inland Sea map. all other settings are standard. You choose your civ. So far I never have seen how somebody beat it.

Yes. I just like Hatsune Miku and find her funny  .

Funny fact: I still got an Aztec / Large / Epic / Domination / Classic on my harddrive :) . I'd only have to record a video commentary to that game. Worker-stealing with WM2 Jags out of Barracks was very funny, aswell as rexing to 3 cities, chopping the Mids, and at the same time being in war with 2 neighbours ^^ .

I'll probably either record a commentary to that game, in case I'm interested to see how I played just after my hiatus, or I may replay the game with similar settings (but then with an Ancient start) , as 2 people have requested it. (see below)

Winning Culture on Boreal isn't too difficult, I've seen kovacsflo win in 13xx AD by Wonderspamming which is an easy strategy having so many Forrests. I'll take the vote for Boreal and will consider Culture.

Aztecs sound a lot more attractive atm. though, because I still remember WM2 Jags from Barracks only having been incredible funny.

I heard about that map and warlords... I still need 2 Space Races, so Vanilla or Warlords iirc., can you give me information on the map and maybe even the most important differences?

Tia,

I am a big AZ fan. Something about his voice is very relaxing, and he's also very good at Civ, of course, and I also like that he tries out oblique strategies.

You guys are say that you learned how to whip from watching AZ. Are there any of his vids that you can recommend for learning howto whip?

The whip's easy. If you can whip for two or more population, and you have a food surplus, do it :)

The map looks like a big landmass with a lake at the center. So, it has a lot of land and rivers. Everybody has two neighbors and space for 10-12 cities. So, it's quite difficult to keep tech pace and to expand enough. Even more it's difficult in Warlords (Deity pays 60%, not 80% like in Vanilla or BTS, also upgrades are almost free. and there is no espionage to catch up), so one should play more perfect than in BTS. On the other hand AIs build less units and whip less. And they are worse in wars in general. And yes, one more - if i understand correctly than vassal mechanism doesn't work correctly. That is - if AI likes you, but doesn't like your vassal then he may be doesn't like your team, hence he may attack. So, all this things make this map even more difficult.

I won once at this map on Deity, but it was Inca's cultural victory with gold near BFC. Probably conquest/space also shouldn't be difficult by choosing map or rivals. However to play with standard settings the first given map could be very difficult.

There was one great SG game on this map in BTS http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=343185

I just watched him. In the beginning I wanted to watch only opening for an hour...but then it found out that opening lasts two hour...Then it became interesting how he was going to deal with problems...Evertually I watched at least half of the game and partially the rest of it.

This one

Yes, whipping is easy. If you need army or buildings (and you need them almost always) and you have at least a couple of hammer put in it and you have some population then don't hesitate to whip
Actually quite interesting - to have superbeuracracy capital and a bunch of smaller cities near it, most of which are at size 3-6 and often whipped.

It's a pity that in that game he did several mistakes, smaller and bigger. I was in game and really wish he got luck, but couldn't say anything.:(

Thx for that information.

Unfortunately, if those settings are pure-handicaps and if there are easier versions of CIV available (in this case Vanilla and BtS) I must decline, because it just wouldn't make sense to compete against others while playing with a Handicap in CIV.

I remember that map, because I've played it numerous times already, and I remember that it is one of the most beautiful mapscripts in whole CIV. Very many resources, very nice Rivers a.s.o.
Actually my fastest Cultural Victories I played all on that mapscript.

Countering the mechanics of Vanilla, I will have to anyhow because of those 2 Space-Races I still need, I'll keep in mind to record a video about that too. Will be very interesting probably, I already heard things like +50% GA-length and not having Espionage should actually be well counterable by going for full research. I already red of some really "funny" things like Cavalries with Military Tradition and Grens with Chemistry or so, so I might think about that for the game after the Boreal map which I've currently set up.
