Research agreements are giving both the bonus per turn *and* the lump-sum boost at the end.

It's always worked like that - the lump sum cannot be turned off (at least in vanilla, don't know if that's changed with G&K, but I doubt it). I think RAs are reasonably well balanced in G&K and the per-turn mechanic disabled until we can mod it correctly; RAs are quite OP now, especially since they can be signed with everyone, not just allies/DoFs.

I find RAs in GEM very overpowered, especially with all the multipliers.

If the lump-sum can't be turned off (or had the amount turned down to an arbitrarily small amount), then the per-turn bonuses really need to be changed, or the gold costs need to be dramatically increased.

The overall tech speed is just way too fast for the human player.

I actually thought that G&K RAs were pretty balanced, where it gives you an amount based on your and your partner's research over the last 8 turns or so AND requires a DoF (to hinder warmongers).

I wasn't aware they changed it in the base game. How do they work now? It seems like they're trying one unsuccessful idea after another, while getting closer and closer to what we already had two years ago. The shared-research model is so simple and works great! :crazyeye:

I don't know the exact specifics of the new mechanism, but it firstly requires a DoF (Ally) in order to attain. Then, when the RA completes at the end it (as I understand) generates an amount of research based on your science income plus your partner's (capped at yours) for the last 8 turns.

I've been doing some research into this, and it appears they basically adopted the VEM system with a few alterations. I will therefore disable the old vem system. Thank you for bringing this up! :goodjob:
