Hello everyone!

I've recently installed the Beyond the Sword 3.17 patch. I'm not sure if it's the patch.
I play a lot of hotseat games with warloads and it only seems to crash when I play BTS.

Well anyway, as soon as I start a new hotseat game it freezes a little bit and the loading bar get's 1/4 full and crashes. I'm using Window Vista and i'm unsure what I should post (a log?). Please help a fellow noob. :(

please look in the windows event log
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/a99f69c1-935f-4116-ba5f-33d8800ef9da1033.mspx

note what the newest logs in there are - close it, start and crash the game - go back to event viewer and post all new events that are logged :)

It says Event 1000 application error: "Faulting application [civilization bts] version 3.1.3.1, time stamp 0x48310000, faulting module CvGameCoreDLL.dll version 3.1.7.0..."

I have a feeling it has something to do with quick start because I tried to crash it and it didn't crash when I didn't advance start it.

unfortunately this is just a catch all error report that does not say what is going wrong.
please open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationiv.ini and set all 5 items with log in their name from 0 to 1, then save that file. then start and crash the game and post all items in my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file attachment here :)

ok - this one is full of errors - most of them I have never seen so I need to think/research about them a bit. I will likely not be able to answer fully today - if I don't post by tomorrow morning or so, please remind me.
also: do single player games work? if so please start one and close it after the map is done generating and post those logs as well - I would like to compare which of those errors occur in a crashing game and which occur elsewhere...

Hey, sorry for not replying, I've been busy all weekend! Did you get a chance to figure out the problem? Do you still need a single player log?

the errors are both in the python files and the xml files (plus some art files do not load) - my guess is that something is wrong with your install.
did you ever install any mods?
when you installed did you install with admin rights?
do you run the game with admin rights?

Yes, i run the game with admin rights and also I did recently uninstall a mod.

I've already tried to uninstall the game and reinstall it but the same problems occur. What do I do?

just checking when reinstalling - did you remove all of the files listed below (excluding warlords if you don't have it)?
Also just to be clear about this for vista: Admin rights are not granted automatically by using an admin account: you have to right click on each installer and each patch and choose run as administrator - using the "install" link on the screen that comes up when you insert the disc will often not work properly.

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here).
