Big fan of civilization 2 but 2 words sum up my thoughts on civ 3

Why?

Give it time. Civ3 is a great game. With some time you
will know it and be sure you will love it, it is much, much better
than civ2.

Fabulous game. Keeps me up waaay toooo laaaate.


Got a great war going right now on Monarch Level (they started it by using Cossacks to attack my civilian workers). We built up this huge rifleman/cannon army, got it in position, just in time for the enemy to upgrade to infantry. Oops!

Well, in for a penny, in for a pound. We attacked anyway. First we cut off his road/rail support. Then we pounded the capital for several turns with cannon. Finally, moved in. We lost about 20 riflemen, but took Moscow anyway. They still don't want peace, so on to Kiev.

I really hate those Cossacks.

Yeah, give it time.

It will grow on you. I'm bummed because I can no longer play civ2, which means I can't play MP , which means I spend all my time playing with myself........er, by myself.

Of course, when civ3 FINALLY has MP, this will no longer be an issue, I will no longer be bummed, and I'll stop ripping Firaxis at every opportunity.

Took Kiev. Made peace. Rush-built temple, cathedral, library. We'll give the Russians a little culture, so they can be as happy as our folks.

The game has many things missing just so they can sell all the special scenarios, map extensions etc. later on several add-on CD's at extortionate prices. Thats why the games so terrible. As soon as I get the add-ons, scenario's etc, i think i will be copying and selling them on so that Firaxis can't be paid for doing a half job for a full priced game and then putting the other half on other CD's.

Two words some up my thoughts:
Firaxis Sucks!!

I played it for a few hours and it is pretty cool. If only it had some built in scenarios or a scenario builder... darn.

Why would you steal something you don't like? If you don't like Firaxis products, don't buy it any more of them. Indeed, you can probably return the product you have for a refund.

Me? I like Civ3. I would gladly buy an expansion pak.

Some games are now charging subscriptions (e.g. Asherons Call). If the money went into research and development, I'd pay that too. I've been playing these games since Strategy I in the late 60's.

And believe me, I've already got my money's worth.

Didn't you know that it came without a scenarios and Multiplayer? I knew it before I went out and bought it. Although, if MP is your thing this isn't the game for you. I am not big a turn based MP..so I was OK with it. I also am one that isn't into scenarios...to each their own.

I guess I do not think Firaxis sucks either. I like this game..and even if I hated it..I have enjoyed the other titles (SMAC, Antietam)they have put forth..so it would be hard for me to say they suck. Just an opinion.

Civ 3 always locks up for me at the same point. Also, what is with these add-on's out in months at high prices... that is cheap. The game is alright I suppose, but I have to say between civ 2 and civ 3 I would probably choose civ 2.

In that case, why don't you choose civ 2, and let the rest of us engage in constructive discussion? If you have a problem with civ3, come up with some ideas or ask for some help. After two months of people whining/celebrating, I don't think many people care whether someone likes or dislikes civ 3.

I agree, I have never played MP so couldn't give a rats, I have never used the editor so i couldn't give a rats, and i have never bothered to even look at a CIV II scenerio so i couldn't give a rats.

Basically i purchased this game and didn't want any of those things, and the game was well and truly worth it, I would have paid double, because I only truly like two games ever released, and CIV is one of them.

As someone said, other big games are charging subscriptions, monthly charges to play, etc, how many different versions of "Age of Empires" are there??, yeah far more than CIV, basically this is the real world, if producers of light bulbs made bulbs that last 20 years (which they could do), then they'd go out of business, it is all about resales if you want to survive, hence ( microsoft windows new version twice in one year).

Give Firaxis a break, they need to succeed as a company as well, everybody is so selfish, this game is priced so everybody can buy it, if they made it perfect now, they would need to charge atleast double, and then many of us are paying a lot of money for many things we don't want.

Think before you speak... Civ 3 is alright I guess, but if only I could have custom maps with units placed and custom cities on them. And maybe a multiplayer.

A quick post like this one and my last are quite a lot less trouble than starting a whole new THREAD to complain, much like so many others have done.

My post wasn't directed specifically at you, KnightsTemplar, so much as it was intended to suggest to anyone else that reads it that no-one really needs more whining threads.

And no, you're not stopping me from constructive discussion, you merely provided the rest of us with another distracting eye-sore of a thread.

I'm glad there's no MP. We get to see who whines and complains BEFORE Multiplayer.

This way you can avoid the players who see fit to complain and whine about Civilization instead of enjoying it. Even with defeat/revolution/loss, the game is fun! I can't wait to play MP!

Anyway, I was attacking the Germans and they were using cavs to counterattack my tanks who were somewhat overextended -- well, they were way overextended. They destroyed several tanks which were caught out in the open. The dead were everywhere. Shattered tanks littered the battlefield. But one lone infantry held the line, allowing our reenforcements to arrive the next turn. We held the position, we took the city, and utterly destroyed the German threat for all time.

Did our soldiers complain because the war was hard? No way. They fought to protect their homes from the onslaught of the Germans. We did not start this war. But we finished it.

That infantry unit was awarded our highest honor, the Sid Meier Star.

Wroing. In fact this is THE game for me, once Firaxis gets their sh!t together and satisfies the demands of the teaming masses who want MP.......NOW!!!!!

And hey, sparrowhawk, I happen to like to listen to what I consider constructive criticism, and I think Firaxis will learn what we really want this way....so why don't YOU go find a nother forum.......of course, I don't expect you to do that. This is as much your forum as it is mine......I just wish people like you would also realize that and stop b!tching whenever anybody has something negative to say.

Firaxis pays it's employees to kiss their ass.....you needn't do it for free.
