Biotech Alt History Brainstorming Thread

Sorry, I just can't read your long posts^^ So, in a few sentences: what do you want me to do / not to do? :crazyeye:

Edit: Finished the Organic Computer Lab + Resource. No Resource Requirement yet. I'd like to add Enzymes (maybe at Molecular Biology? Or Gene Manipulation?) and Biobricks (maybe at Advanced Molecular Biology?) as requirements.
And if you could think of an appropiate building at Biopunk to produce BioPolymers, they can be a prereq aswell.

Thanks Faustmouse -bite sized pieces.
I really should keep it to 1 point.

Breakdown.
1. Nothing really - just don't go full Existenz.
and I was being silly.

Please avoid copying that movie at all costs :crazyeye:.
I hope someone doesn't bring up Existenz. Please, please don't.
with the bio-techy vr game pods.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existenz
move along. move along. nothing to see here.
This is not the bio-tech you're looking for...

I really don't mind organic looking screens. Please just keep it from becoming more cartoony.

2. Cool inspirational stuff. Should have kept that separate.
I recommend those books/movie highly. Great reads, good ideas. I would have to re-read them to breakdown the ideas into usable form.

Thanks, much better now! :crazyeye:

Ok, I won't add it. And if you have great ideas, just post them. :goodjob:

As requested art etc for some dino-like critters. They were posted as modular so I kept them that way. Basilisk, Sea Serpent and Tyrannosaurus! They have their XML so that you can look at them, but it is not correct for C2C.

I think if we are going to have units they should not be just animal but a super animal. Here are my 2 ideas ...

Neoraptor
Strength: Strong enough to fight units of its time
Abilities: Should be fast and stealthy.
Appearance: The raptor unit that use to be used as the "Komodo Dragon"

Chimera
Strength: Should be very strong compared to units of its time.
Abilities: It should have regenerating powers to heal quickly and be immune to biological attacks.
Appearance: Some mythical animal unit.

Ok I think I found a good unit grpahic for the Chimera, here.

The Devourer graphic would also be good for some sort of unit.

Oh and this Dryad would be a good Organic Armored unit or even Plant-Human Hybrid unit.

Thanks DH!

Well, keep in mind what weapons are available at Biopunk. Biological Systems have limits. They are slower, have weaker armour... So while Griffons and Hippogryphs would look definetly cool, I'm afraid they would be quite useless in wars.

Who said anything about war:D Also the Scottish culture should have a Nessie "hero" unit that boosts the moral of all units in the stack - good use of the sea serpent since it is really a plesiosaur.

A well ok :D If not for war, there is an "Animal Designer" building under Biopunk.

@Faustmouse

Here is a new Biopunk unit I re-textured today. It uses the same model and animations as the Hi-Tech Marine. Please use that as a guide for art.

Organic Armored Infantry [National Unit - Limit 15]
Graphic: (See Attachment)
Icon: (See Attachment)
Type: Combatant/Hi-Tech
Strength: 100
Movement: 2
Cost: 3000
Req Tech: Biopunk
Req Resource: Biopunk AND Organic Computers
Req Building: Biopunk Lab
Upgrades To: Super Soldier

Special Abilities
  • +25% City Defense
  • +25% Gunpowder Units
  • Starts with March, Camouflage and Amphibious Promotions

Note this doesn't need firearms or ammunition because it "grows" its own ammunition in the biogun it is equipped with.

Don't forget to make this. Model is in the original post.

I won't forget it, it's still on my list. And I still keep pushing it away because I don't like units as much as I like buildings :mischief:

I asked Mr Azure if he'd like to take over units and he said he'd be interested.

New buildings inspired by Mr Azures Artwork:

2) Well ok. If you think this is not to complicated for a simple Biopunk building.
Don't forget that you won't need to change the Jewelry. I need to make a small version of the BuildingInfos for the jewelry in the Biopunk folder so it's only active when Biopunk is on.

Glow in the dark things are the quick becoming one of the most cliched products of the GMO world. This is probably because they are achievable and very easily recognised as alien and different. Humans love lights and glowing things in general – so glowing bioluminescent jewerly seem like an obvious product. As of earlier this year they are finally commercially available. An Australian company BIOCONST has produced its first range of commercial bioluminescent jewerly, which it calls Galassia Jewerly.

Zachary Copfer is a bioartist. He currently works primarily in the new medium of bacteriogaphy: photographs produced by glowing genetically modified bacteria (which replace light sensitive photo paper). This work is effectively a new medium for artistic endeavour, one which captures the spirit of the genetic revolution – replacing large numbers of conventional technologies with biological ones. As a former microbiologist recently turned visual artist, Zachary Copfer has begun searching for ways to synthesize the seemingly dichotomous fields of science and art. He believe that the separation of art and science is a misconception shared by many who are unfamiliar with the simple elegance of scientific theories. For Zachary the world of science has always been a beautiful poetic place, more artful than anyplace else I have ever known.

What do you think about this unit Hydro:

Controlled Insect Swarm
Requires Biopunk OR Cyberpunk
Requires Manupulated Insect Lab
Cost 1500
Movement 2
Base Strength 70
Collateral Damage to 20 Units, max 10% (per turn)
20% Early Withdraw chance
Weakness against Fire
-90% Against Tracked and Weeled Units
Targets any Melee, Gunpowder, Mounted, Healer.... (Unarmored Units) first outside a city

Also, I asked Sparth if he could retexture Nanite Swarm or Locust Swarm and he did. But the links he posted (in this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=511194&page=2 Post 27 + 28) don't work so I'm not sure what to use as graphics.
