Ok in the single player campaign the game loads, but I get the soon to be imfamous (if not already) black terrain. I get the resources, my units, and the goody huts but no terrain. So I put everything on Low and turned off unit movement and what not... the bare mininum. The terrain was still black on the singleplayer and tutorial. But just now I booted up the American Revolution mod and presto... I have terrain. I don't know WHAT THE HECK is going on, and I am wondering if anyone else does. This is extremely odd... I may go check single player again.

All that said, the mod runs choppy and slowly for me.

My PC is:

2.66 GHz Pentium 4
512 MB RAM
Integrated Extreme Graphics (ewww...)

I know the graphics card is probably the reason for my woes... but I don't understand why it works for part of the game but not for the rest.

I'd like yalls feedback.

It is all your graphics card (choppiness and black terrain).
It just isn't powerful enough.

Moved to tech support, BTW.

Ok something weird has happened, I have played about 5 turns into the game with a black screen... but all of a sudden about 1/15 of the map, the very left side has shown up. I am lost.

Update: Now 1/8 of the screen is bright while the other part isn't! This is not an issue of Fog of War... I can actually see parts of the map where I have no men but the squares next to and ontop of my cities do not show up. Very odd.

Yeah that happened to me to. except i have more like 2/15 of the map and was in the bottom middle section of the screen. weird!

my games is doing exactly like yoursif it can do scenarios why cant it play the tutorial or single game

i think it has to do with the fog of war. if the fog is off (as in the mod) you can see everything. in a normal game, if the fog in the right place on the global map is explored, your "fog" that follows you around on your screen goes away. smaller (ie, duel or tiny) world games really show this effect since you soon have explored the appropriate place on the global map.

here's what i did:

open up Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Technologies\CIV4TechInfos.xml

and do a replace all changing <bMapVisible>0</bMapVisible> to <bMapVisible>1</bMapVisible>.

now everyone starts with the map revealed. terrain is fine, although the oceans look a little funny for me. you still need to explore to find goody huts and your opponents, but unfortunately the terrain types and resource locations are revealed. but you are at least on equal footing with the ai since they will see everything too.
