Blackened Skies

Excellent update Crezth, Nuka!

Come see the tyrrany of the Imperial Regime, that they would murder and starve their own citizens so callously! Death! Death to tyrants!

Says the group who is defacto legalizing rape

OOC: The forced relocation of rural folk thing went worse than I was planning. I was hoping to just kind of separate the rebels from the general population by making it easier for the military to keep an eye on the general population. The villages were supposed to be halfway decent places to live, and my aim wasn't to hurt or kill anyone. Kind of like the British actions in Malaysia except more humane.

To: The United States of America, Colombia
From: The Democratic Republic of Brazil
CC: The World

With the defeat of the Monarchists and the expulsion of the Americans, Brazil officially pronounces the end of the Civil War and the victory for Democracy. With that, peace between our nation and that of Colombia and America has not been signed.

Our only conditions are recognization of the Democratic Republic of Brazil as the legitimate government of Brazil. This also means ceasing the illegal bloackade of Brazil which is only hindering our efforts to bring the populace back to normalcy at this point. If you had true well-meaning intentions for the Brazilian people, you will do this much.

Whether or not you actually act like decent human beings, we still plan on writing a constitution before elections are held in '37. We maintain that we fought for democracy first.

We find the American practice of ignoring diplomatic mesages when it suits them telling.

Even if America doesn't, we urge Colombia to accept these terms to its own capacity. Maintaining an official state of war will be met with an appropriate response. Note our current offer amounts to white peace. Our next offer will not be so generous.

We promise to demobilize to 20% assuming peace between our two countries is assured.

OOC: You do realise the new villages by and large had those exact problems, right?

Briggs' new villages had awful conditions. The cost of building, relocating and providing services to new villages was beyond the capacity of Malaya to support. It was also a narrowly targeted program aimed at a small part of the population - Chinese squatters. You've just done it to a much larger share of your population with no particular reason and with a weaker state apparatus, far less cash and much shakier public support. Of course it's going to be grim.

OOC:The Communist party is drawing on support from Oaxacan Commune lands, which is why I am doing what I am doing, trying to prevent them from gaining reinforcements.

IC: The Emperor regrets the hardships that the people of Oaxaca have gone through. It was never my intention to harm any of you. I simply wanted to separate the good hardworking villagers of the countryside from the villainous Communist rebels and prevent innocents from getting caught in the crossfire. I ask that you bear this turn of events with patience. Right now the honorable members of the government are working tirelessly to ensure supplies reach your villages. I will also allow those who obtain military approval to leave the village. The villages and their infrastructure will be expanded. And when the rebel threat is over, you are free to return to normalcy. I thank those who have been patient. It is not what I would have wanted, and it is not what you want, but it is necessary for the survival of Mexico as a nation. Anarchy is not a solution. The absence of order frees rapists and murderers to act on their basest desires. Communism is not a solution. All it can ever lead to is the equal sharing of misery. Both of these paths lead to a dark future. This is not the future I want for Mexico. I want a future in which all Mexicans sit around the table of prosperity as equals.

Next time you copy an idea, maybe make sure it's one that didn't fail.

OOC: I heard it succeeded in Malaysia. And by now it's kind of too late. What am I supposed to do? Just back dwn and let them desert to the Communists and anarchists?

yes.

thanks in advance

:lmao:

It didn't fail at all. It worked extremely well. The issue is whether or not an intention that the conditions should be good translates into good conditions. I don't think it does.

It's sort of like whether you can expect to add children and women to industrial enterprises in bulk and expect good outcomes. Women and children are raw so there's going to be more accidents at the start. Men probably don't like it, because it's a threat to their jobs and increases the number of men who can he drafted. It upends traditional family structures. Child labour reduces educational opportunity. And so on. You can make it work from an industrial perspective, but from a social perspective it's fraught. And that's reasonable.

The discussion is moot anyways since I can't back down and let all those people desert to the rebel scum.

Huh? I think your missing the point. The mere fact that conditions suck, doesn't mean it can't work it just makes it harder. The important thing is security.

i think this is better discussed in the OOC thread

I agree :)

From: Italy
To : Portugal, USA

The Kingdom of Italy condems Portugals actions and advices them to reconsider their standpoint.
It seems that the sizeable presence of US-troops in their country has cause some Portugese politicans to go slightly power-crazy. They can't hope to win anything here, except for an massive conflict.

To: Greece

Nice try with this cute little army. Even while most of our forces are fighting in the homeland, putting down your pathtic little invasion was still easy. Call yourself lucky if our navy doesn't decide to "visit" your ports, too.

The United States advises Italy that it's input and speculation on the causes of the present Iberian crisis is unwelcome.

The United States advises Italy that American shipping visits Greek ports and that the United States considers that any attack which causes damage to American property or causes harm to Americans will be considered an act of aggression against the United States. The United States further reminds Italy that Greek or Russian flagged merchant vessels travelling in convoys guarded by United States Navy vessels are treated as though they are American vessels for the duration of the journey. Any attack against Greek or Russian shipping so travelling will be met with force.
