Hello and thank you in advance for you time and hopefully your solutions.

I've been considering purchasing Civ 4, but in the mean time I've been doing tons of research and playing the demo. However, there seems to be a problem, as when I actually play the game, all the terrain seems blacked out almost as if in a fog of war. Now, I can see towns, resources, and units perfectly.

My computer has a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX, and yes I do realize that it is a fossil but I don't have the money to upgrade, so it would seem that is not in fact the problem. Any tips to remedy this for the demo is appreciated, and if there are none I would ask if this problem would be present if I do purchase the full game.

P.S. Yes, there is a thread not far below me, which may or may not deal with a similar problem. I wasn't sure however, so I decided to post the question here.

Well. I don't think the demo can patched in any way. Civ full version might not show black for you, because the patches fixed that in most cases. I recommend that you ask a friend who owns civ to come along, try installing the game, patch it and see if it works.

Geforce MX cards don't have the black terrain problem as long as you're running patch 1.09 or later. You are likely to get some minor graphical glitches, but the game should be playable.

Thank you once again, and more thanks for the speed of the response.

Although it is a shame that I won't be able to play the demo in all it's glory, it's nice to see that I'll probably be able to play the real thing without too much of an issue.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to borrow Civ, because all my friends think it's too boring :D.
