This is my near completion easy project. Japanese hand shield used before Sengoku Peroid in the 15th Century
This is what I got so far

But their shields are all wooden.

Example of Jap hand shields used pre-Samurai Era. First I believe they didn't use shields but they did. too bad the default 'Japanese' swordsmen and spearmen are shown to use Chinese bucklers (in truth they hardly have such chance importing Chinese wargear a whole, what they did imports before they can forge their first true blades of their kind were swords and spear tips I think)
rightnow using texture painting it doesn't appar with wood pattern. How can I do wooden textures via Blender ?

Unsure whether its actually recommended to do wooden textures in Blender.
UV-Unwrap the model and then make a wooden texture in photoshop or gimp. Thats the way i would do it at least

And one additional thing. you could also Take a look at „Substance Painter“, you can do really nice textures with that program. :)

This is what I've got now. Next is to add glossy textures. How is it possible via Blender or is it better off with image editors like PS?

Does it looks more like antique wooden Japanese hand shield now?

And which color is accepted when converted to DDS ?

Substance Painter is paid software. You will not need it for unit textures, i just wanted to show this program exists.

Shield is looking good.

For Gloss Maps, you could generate those textures via Awesome Bump (freeware).

Which color is accepted? Just look into the game textures and there you will see :)
