BoG 02 - Blizkrieg

please skip me as I can't play vanilla civ3. when I was moving a few weeks ago it was a casualty of the move. I haven't been able to find it since...so only PTW for me.

that means ville is up and im on deck. goget em tiger! i agree on the green red, and pink dots. settle red, then aim for pink

I would be careful about pink- it leave the east coast in a quandary. Also, will it have any decent shields, or just 2 hills and floodplains?

Another dot can be placed either 2S of the SW cow by red dot, or 1W of the Incense west of pink dot. We want a coastal city, and these are nice.
1 tile NW of the gold-mountain on the east coast is another good location. Firstring, coastal, reclaims the game tile near berlin.

Changed my mind and played right away;)
T0-Berlins production: Warrior->Spearman
T1-Leipzig founded
T2-zzzzz
T3-Spearman finished in Berlin-> Settler
T4-zzzzz
T5-zzzzz
T6-Leipzig: Warrior finished ->Spearman
T7-zzzzz
T8-zzzzz
T9-Settler in Berlin-> Settler
T10-zzzz
T11-zzzzzzz
T12-zzzzzz
T13-Spearman in Leipzig
T14-zzzzzzz
T15-zzzzzzzzz
T16-Settler in Berlin->Warrior, Hamburg founded
T17-zzzzzz
T18-Koningsberg founded
T19-Russians found!!!!!!
T20-zzzzzzzz
And the savefile:

As to dotmap, I draw up dotmap when my turn started. That image however broke somehow, so I grabbed another screenie
after I had played, and just filled in the dots.

My rationale for Pink dot, was to get Incense fast, and then use it for worker/settler production. As such it would not need more than 5 or 10 shields. Irrigated floodplains would supply food, and mined hills/desert ( with the incense) the shields.

Further scouting could of course made that choice obsolete.
I also agree on Eriks other city placements. Will see if I can draw up another dotmap when it is my turn again.

Grimjack

i got it, and will play tonight. do you think you can draw up a quick dtmap for me. city placement has always been my weakness

Thine wish is my command!

Are we playing 10 or 20 turns now?

Note:
Next turn, switch Berlin to floodplains. One turn earlier growth, nothing lost on the settler.

On the map:
Purple is on a river. Might be good to grab this first.
Green will need a harbor or some irrigation.
Pink will need loads of irrigation, but can then work several hills.
White is a filler city.
Northern blue is decent land, but I can't see it.
Brown: Pick one. Not a good place for cities, this.
Southern blue: There is Incense, what else?

Might we be somewhat thin on workers ?

I do not know where you had contact, so it is hard to figure out in what direction it is most acute to settle. It is tempting to assume we are on the southern part of a continent, thus making settling northwards more of a priority.

Grimjack

Ooo, just noticed your title Erik,
Thats a recent version of Angband ? Pretty certain Chaos-warrior wasn't available in the Angband I played.
Thought that was sometihing only existing in ZAngband.

Grimjack

Don't leave me startings of attacks or such because I'm fully builder, (well there can ofcourse be some exceptions;) )

we are playing either 10 or 20 turns, and Erik, its Bog 2, not 1. im pretty sure the russians are in the south. i shadowed the turn that we made contact.

Preturn -analyze the situation

Turn 1 - send settler to purple dot, order up granary

Turn 2 - Not much

Turn 3 -Konis, warrior > rax. Early rax are nice.

Turn 4 - russia wont offer us anyting for IW. It would cost us 100 gold for CB, and it would cost them only 18 gold for IW!

Turn 5 - warrior reveals some nice land around question mark. Will try to grad that. Frankfurt founded

Turn 6 - nothing much

Turn 7 - see turn 6

Turn 8 - nothing north of us.

Turn 9 - movin settler

Turn 10 - cant decide to settle on hill or grassland. On grassland is a little more overlap, but hil doesnt flood plain wheat immediately.

Got it.
Now we've gone one round, so I may as well reveal the funny message for those who missed it.
Upon game loading, it shows:
Chancellor Beware of the Gnomes.

Grimjack: No, the CW is not in VAng, but VAng is more commonly known than PAng, where I got my title. It changed to ToME a while ago, have you tried that?
Everybody else can get an explanation of this by going to http://www.thangorodrim.net/angband.html .

BLARGH
double post.

Preturn: Decide to settle on the river, and found another city NW of it, SW of Leipzig. Frankfurt gets changed to a worker, as we need more. The same goes for Hamburg. This early, I like having 1 city making vet spears and the others making settlers, workers and improvements. Konigsberg can do that, as it has cattle.
The Russians are way ahead of us on tech, and they recently acquired IW. Since Alphabet at max leads to Writing/Literature, and it is cheaper than buying it, I put sci to 90. Alph in 8 turns at -2gpt. Press Enter.

Turn 1: Berlin produces Settler. I send him Nw. Move the other settler SE.

Turn 2: Move settlers again and the northern warrior.

Turn 3: Founded Munich. There was a FRENCH warrior beside it. They are 4 techs up on us, same as Russia.
Berlin grows to size 3. I'll take this opportunity to show off some micro. Berlin has a game forest(1), and irrigated game plain(2), an irrigated plain(3), and an irrigated flood plain(4). By default, it went to the first 3 of these. +3 food will be wasted on turn 7, so on turn 5 I will move (3) to (4). This will give +4 food, but 4 shields instead of 5. However, since the town grows one turn earlier, these will come in again. Rememebr, growth is handled before production.
Iron spotted NW.
Interturn: Ruskies begin Pyramids.

Turn 4: Start roading the cow by Kingsburg.

Turn 5: Frankfurt produces Worker. I am going to road in that Iron. Kingsburg rows, so I set 20% luxury. Change Berlin from irrigated plains (3) to irrigated flood plains (4).

Turn 6: Hamburg produces worker, starts another. Heidelburg founded up north. Start irrigating near Frankfurt.

Turn 7: Berlin produces settler. I send him southwest. Fiddle sci down to 10%, same for lux. Berlin has 4 food in the box, set to +3 now.
Interturn: Alphabet discovered. Started on Writing, as neither France nor Russia have it. Even if we don't come first, we may reach Literature first.
Turn 8: I keep scouting the northwest.

Turn 9: Kingsburg produces a spear, I send it with the settler passing through.
Interturn: Incense roaded to Hamburg.
Turn 10: Frankfurt produces warrior, starts worker.

Turn 11: Leipzig produces granary, starts worker.

Turn 12: Kingsburg produces MP warrior, starts settler as it is size 4 and grumpy. Nuremberg founded.
France has Writing. I can buy it for 215 gold, or research it for 147 beakers. I buy it, then for Writing, 70 gold and 2gpt I could get CB and Wheel from Russia. I renegotiate peace instead, and cut out the 2 gpt.
Where are the horses? 1 next to Munich, 1 up north.
I decide on researching Literature next.

Interturn: FP message.
TUrn 13: Leipzig builds worker. Munich builds worker.

Turn 14: Berlin builds Settler, starts another. I think our expansion is nearly over, though.

Turn 15: Frankfurt builds worker, starts warrior.

Turn 16: Frankfurt worker->worker, Heidelburg warrior->worker

Turn 17: Kingsburg builds settler, sends it north.

Turn 18: We Have Incense! Atleast in 4 cities. Lux tax turned off. Cologne founded just north of Berlin.

Turn 19: A Russian settler pair is seen near Hamburg.

Turn 20: Frankfurt warrior->worker.

The plan: Leipzig and/or Berlin can be set up for +5 food/turn and a worker every second. Maybe even +10 food, +9 shields and a good nearby square.
Literature in 8 turns. Note that we are paying gold to Russia.
I have a warrior down south, scouting.
We have 1 active settler, 2 being produced and we will want 4 or 5 by my dotmap.

The big dots are probable. The yellows are fishing villages.
I circled the 2 horses we know of in black.

The next leader can take this gateway to the world he will rule.

1000BC(0) Cheking out the lay of the land. From the report, I doubt there is anything I could adjust to
the better.
oo, found one I didn't understand, workers chopping game wood by Leipzig. Game woods are as good as bonus grass,
2 food and two shields. An irrigated games plains would be 3/1. SInce we have loads of floodplains, I would rather
have shields. A mined games plains is also 2 food and 2 shields. Rather than losing worker turns, I set them to road.

IBT Berlin Settler -> Spearman Setting Berlin at three food surplus, since we have four in box. ( Thanks for tip Erik)

975BC(1) I set Berlins Settler on course to secure some land in the south, instead of by the dotmap. I think we will
get the dots anyway. I not that Leipzig also is at 3 surplus food. WIll put it on two surplus as soon as I have 6 in box.

IBT Konigsberg Spear-> Spear

950BC(2) France is up Masonry/Mysticism and Mapmaking. Russia is up Masonry.

IBT Munich worker->Temple ( I want to draw in the horse ASAP )

925BC(3) Was too late to secure more southern lands. Settler heads to pink dot instead.

IBT: nada

900BC(4): zzz

IBT: Catherine finally tells us to remove our warrior traipsing along in her territory, looking for the other side.
Leipzig, settler-> settler.
Frankfurt Worker-> Temple ( Since I cannot expand by new cities, lets try to expand by culture. )

875BC(5) Hannover is founded on purple spot. Set to worker, since he had an mp warrior tag along.
OUr deported warrior got evicted from russia right next to French lands :)
Science lowered to 70%.

IBT We get Literature. Set research to Philosophy. Berlin Spearman -> Library. Reason being that I want Berlin to grow.
Hamburg Worker->Library Heidelburg worker->worker. Munich changed Temple to library. Libraries are cheaper, and it is not so
much research, as it is Culture and border expansions I am after.

850BC(6) Bremen is foudned on pink dot. Bremen is food poor, so I set it to Granary. I have sent along a spear as MP.
oops, a misclick makes our scouting warrior enetr French lands. MM Berlin and Leipzig. If we can remember to do this
every other turn, we will make extra shields as well as growth.
Check trade for Literature. I want Mapmaking from French, but no deal is possible while I research Philosophy.
I would not want top trade to russians, as I was hoping for a trade two for one as regards Masonry.
After some readjustments, I discover Joan wants Lit, World map, 12 GPT and our treasury of 12 for Map Maping.
This seems rather expensive, so I sit on Lit for a until next turn, in order to check if she is researching it.
I instead trade LIt to Joan for Mysticism, world map, and 25 gold. ( I assume we do not want Great Library, since
we didn't have a prebuild. ) Notice we are on a cintinent with JOan and Catherine. Catherine gives Masonry and 14 Gold
for Literature. We get another 50 gold for Mysticism. Map Making still really really expensive. WIll wait a while for that.
I start research on Philosophy at max.

IBT: See a french settler pair in France. Only free land is in our north. This means we have ten turns to colonize our
northlands.
Konigsberg Spear->Spear

825BC(7) Movement. Joanie has Horseback riding. Makes me feel a bit better in chosing Philosophy rather than Horse.

IBT: Nuremberg Barracks->Spear Cologne worker->Warrior (MP)

800BC(8) Establish embassies. Russia is building pyramids with 25 turns to go. Palace only improvement.Paris is also building
Pyramids, they have 8 turns to go. They too only believe in palaces. Catherine also has Map Making now. We have Philosophy in five.
Hope that is enough.

IBT; Lyons complete Colossus. Babylon cascades and completes Oracle.

775 BC(9): MOvement. MM of Berlin and Leipzig.

IBT: Nada

750BC(10) I disband the warrior down in French lands. NO use spending one GPT on supporting him, just for scouting purposes.
Too late I realize I do not spend any GPT while we are despots..... :(
I did not road to iron on purpose. Partly because I did not want it to disappear, and partly because I want us to be able to
build cheap MPs. Settler is heading up to yellow dot by horses.

We would need Map Making asap. My sugegstion is to wait and see if Philosophy can net us that along with Horseback riding..
ALso I suggest we start a galleon prebuild in two of our coastal cities. ONe on each coast.

Hmm, I give up how to make a proper url: Try this link:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/BoG2_750_BC.SAV

here

Iron won't disappear when roaded. It disappears randomly.
BTW what is the playing order exactly:confused:

The original roster had "crash-and-burn"itis.
Lets set it to the playing order:
Erik
Grimjack - Played
Ville - Up now
Bewareofgnomes - On Deck

Grimjack: I noticed you saying Frankfurt worker -> temple but you never mentioned changing it to library. If you forgot to write it, I am a horrid nagger. If you forgot to do it, would Ville please take care of it?
Were my workers chopping the forest by Leipzig? My bad.
I really should start my own SG, where I can nag freely.
